Factory Data Reset (Powered Off) - Samsung Gear S2 / Gear S2 Classic

A factory data reset may help with a blank or frozen screen, apps crashing or freezing, keypad/touchscreen problems, can't hear, device making noises, can't make or receive calls, and device won't sync.

  • This article relates to the Samsung Galaxy Gear S2. If working with the Gear S see article 162521.

Caution Perform a factory data reset only if absolutely necessary as it removes all data including:

Note An alternate method is available if the device can be powered on and is responsive.

  1. Ensure the Gear S2 is powered off.
  2. Press and hold the Power button until "Rebooting..." appears under Samsung Gear S2.
    Note Screen will go go black then come back on.
  3. Release, then press the Power button twice. The Select REBOOT MODE screen appears.
  4. From the Select REBOOT MODE screen, press the Power button until "Recovery" is highlighted.

  5. Press and hold the Power button until the device begins to reboot.
    Note The Gear S2 resets. Allow some time for the reset process.
