First time setup and activation - out of the box experience - DROID MAXX 2 BY MOTOROLA

Note This device comes with the SIM card already inserted.

Caution Are you upgrading from an existing Verizon Wireless device? Yes or No.

  1. If powered off, press and hold the Power button for approximately 3 seconds then release.
    Power button
  2. From the Welcome screen, select the appropriate language then tap NEXT.
  3. From the "Verify your account" screen, enter the Account PIN then follow the onscreen prompts.
    Note See Account PIN FAQs for additional info.
  4. Turn off your old phone to ensure the activation process completes.
  5. From the Phone Activation screen, tap NEXT or tap ACTIVATE NOW (located in the lower-right).
    Note Allow several minutes for activation to complete.
  6. Review the Privacy settings then tap ACCEPT AND CONTINUE.
    Note To review the Motorola Privacy Policy:
    1. Tap Privacy settings
    2. Tap View Motorola Privacy Policy (located at the bottom)
    3. When finished, tap DONE.
    4. Tap the Back icon < (the left arrow located in the lower-left).
  7. From the Verizon Cloud screen, tap NEXT to complete setup.
  8. From the Email setup screen, add your email account(s). Click here to see how.
  9. From the Tap & Go screen, tap Learn more to find out what this feature is. If you would like to use it, click here. Otherwise, proceed to step 10.
  10. From the Add your account (Google) screen, tap Add an Existing Google Account or Create a New Google Account.
  11. If desired, from the Protect your phone screen, tap SET SCREEN LOCK NOW and then tap one of the following:
  12. From the Google services screen, tap any of the following services to enable or disable then tap NEXT.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
    • Use Google's location service
    • Help improve location services
    • Help improve your Android experience
  13. From the Setup Wizard summary screen, tap DONE (located in the lower-right).
  14. Congratulations! Your device set up is complete!

Verizon Cloud

  1. Tap the items you would like Verizon Cloud to back up then tap NEXT.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
  2. Choose how you would like Verizon Cloud to back up content:
    • Wi-Fi Only
    • Both Wi-Fi and Mobile Networks
  3. Tap DONE WITH CLOUD.

Email Setup

  1. Tap the account type.
  2. Enter the Email address then tap NEXT Next icon (located in the lower-right).
    Note Depending upon the email account type, the available options may vary
    Note If Microsoft Exchange Active Sync was selected, then complete these steps
  3. Enter the password then tap Next.
  4. Enter the appropriate info (e.g., Username, Password,Security type, etc.) then tap Next.
  5. Enter the appropriate info (e.g., SMTP server, Port, Security type, etc.) then tap Next.
  6. Configure Account options as appropriate then tap Next.
  7. Enter an account name if desired then tap Next.
    Note If presented, ensure a name is entered for outgoing messages

Go back to continue with step 9 of first time setup

Corporate Email Setup (Exchange Active Sync)

  1. Enter your corporate email address and password then tap Next (located in the lower-right).
    Note If set up is unsuccessful, tap to go back, tap Manual Setup then set up manually (begin with step 4).
  2. If presented with an Activation prompt, review the info then tap OK to continue.
  3. If presented with a Remote security administration prompt, tap OK to continue.
  4. Configure the account options (e.g., Period to sync Email, Sync schedule, etc.) as necessary then tap Next.
  5. If presented with an "Activate device administrator" screen, tap Activate.
    Note Follow the on-screen steps to complete the applied security policy (e.g., Set up password, Device encryption).
    Note Device encryption can exceed 60 minutes.
  6. If desired, enter an account name then tap Next.

Manually Setup Corporate Email Setup (Exchange Active Sync)

Note Contact your Exchange / IT Administrator for assistance with server info and credentials.

  1. Ensure that the appropriate info is entered into the following fields:
    • Email address
    • Domain\username
    • Password
    • Exchange server
  2. If applicable, configure the following then tap Next (located at the bottom):
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
    • Use secure connection (SSL)
    • Use client certificate
  3. If presented with an Activation prompt, review the info then tap OK to continue.
  4. If presented with a Remote security administration prompt, tap OK to continue.
  5. Configure the account options (e.g., Period to sync Email, Sync schedule, etc.) as necessary then tap Next.
  6. If presented with an "Activate phone administrator" screen, tap Activate.
    Note Follow the on-screen steps to complete the applied security policy (e.g., Set up password, Device encryption).
    Note Device encryption can exceed 60 minutes.
  7. If desired, enter an account name then tap Next.

Tap & Go Setup

  1. On your old device, navigate: Settings > Wireless & networks > More networks.
  2. Ensure NFC is turned On.
  3. Place the two devices back to back until a tone is heard and "Check your other device" is seen on the screen.
  4. Set the devices side by side.
  5. On the Old device, tap OK.
    Note If your Old device has screen lock enabled tap LOCK & VERIFY then enter the password, PIN or pattern.

Add an Existing Google Account

  1. Enter the email address then tap NEXT (located in the lower right).
  2. Enter the email password then tap NEXT.
  3. Review the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy then tap ACCEPT (located in the lower-right) to continue.
  4. From the Set up payment info screen, select Remind me later then tap NEXT.
    Note Payment info can be completed later by navigating Apps > Play Store from a Home screen, tap a paid app, tap Continue then select a payment method.
  5. From the Sync your account screen, configure the appropriate sync settings (e.g., Sync Contacts, Sync Calendar, etc.) then tap NEXT.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.

Go back to continue with step 11 of first time setup

Create a New Google Account

  1. Enter the appropriate name into the following fields then tap NEXT (located in the lower right).
    • First name
    • Last name
  2. Locate the Username field and enter the desired username then tap NEXT.
  3. Enter then re-enter the preferred password then tap NEXT.
    Note The password must be at least 8 characters.
  4. From the Rescue info screen, ensure the correct phone number is listed then tap NEXT.
  5. From the Confirm phone number screen, ensure the correct phone number is listed then tap Send It.
  6. Tap AGREE to accept the terms and conditions.
  7. Tap NEXT.
  8. From the Google services screen, tap Keep me up to date... to enable or disable then tap NEXT.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
  9. From the Set up payment info screen, select Remind me later then tap NEXT.
    Note Payment info can be completed later by navigating Apps > Play Store from a Home screen, tap a paid app, tap Continue then select a payment method.
  10. From the Sync your account screen, tap the appropriate sync settings (e.g., Sync Contacts, etc.) to enable or disable then tap NEXT.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.

Set Up Pattern Lock

Note An unlock pattern is created then utilized to unlock the device.

  1. Draw an unlock pattern (connecting at least 4 dots) then tap CONTINUE.
  2. Draw the same pattern again then tap CONFIRM.
  3. If presented, select an option then tap NEXT (located in the lower-right).
    • Show all notification content
    • Hide sensitive notification content
    • Don't show notifications at all

Set Up PIN Lock

Note A PIN is created then utilized to unlock the device.

  1. If presented with the PIN policy screen, tap OK.
  2. Enter a numeric PIN (4 to 16 digits) then tap CONTINUE.
  3. Re-enter the numeric PIN then tap OK.
  4. If presented, select an option then tap NEXT (located in the lower-right).
    • Show all notification content
    • Hide sensitive notification content
    • Don't show notifications at all

Set Up Password Lock

Note A password is created then utilized to access the device.

  1. If presented with the Password policy screen, tap OK.
  2. Enter a password (4 to 16 characters) then tap CONTINUE.
  3. Re-enter the password then tap OK.
  4. If presented, select an option then tap NEXT (located in the lower-right).
    • Show all notification content
    • Hide sensitive notification content
    • Don't show notifications at all

Existing Customers (Only Applies if Upgrading from a Verizon Device)

Note If you're upgrading from iPhone®, you need to turn off iMessage before activating your new phone.

  1. Save Contacts and Content from your Original phone using the Transfer Wizard.
  2. If powered off, press and hold the Power button for approximately 3 seconds then release.

  3. From the Welcome screen, select the appropriate language then tap NEXT.
  4. From the "Verify your account" screen, enter the Account PIN then follow the onscreen prompts.

  5. Turn off your original phone.

Turn off iMessage®

  1. On your iPhone go to Settings.
  2. Tap Messages.
  3. If the indicator next to the iMessage switch is green, tap or slide the switch to turn it off.
    Note When the feature is turned off, the switch is all white
