First time setup and activation - out of the box experience - Samsung Galaxy Tab E

Note This device comes with the SIM card already inserted.

Caution Are you upgrading from an existing Verizon Wireless device? Yes or No.

  1. If powered off, press and hold the Power button until the Samsung screen appears then release.
  2. From the Welcome screen, select the appropriate language then tap NEXT (located in the lower-right).
  3. From the Tablet Activation screen, tap NEXT.
    Note If necessary, allow several seconds for activation to complete.
  4. From with the Set Up Wi-Fi screen, select the network you'd like to connect to and enter the password (if applicable) then tap CONNECT > NEXT.
    Note If you'd prefer to setup a Wi-Fi connection at a later time, tap SKIP (located in the lower-right).
  5. From the Email setup screen, add your email account(s). Click here to see how.
  6. From the Add your account (Google) screen, you can Add an Existing Google Account or Create a New Google Account.
  7. If desired, from the Protect your phone screen, tap SET SCREEN LOCK NOW and then tap one of the following:
  8. From the Google services screen, tap any of the following services to enable or disable then tap NEXT.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
    • Back up your tablet's apps, app data, settings, personal dictionaries, and Wi-Fi passwords
    • Use Google's location service
    • Help improve location services
    • Help improve your Android experience
  9. From the Setup Wizard Summary screen, tap DONE (located in the lower-right).
  10. From the Samsung account screen, tap Learn more, to find out more about the feature. If you would like to add a Samsung account, click here. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.
  11. Congratulations! Your tablet set up is complete!

Email Setup

  1. Tap the account type (e.g., Yahoo, AOL, Outlook.com, etc.).
  2. Enter the email address and password then tap NEXT (located in the lower-right).
    Note Depending upon the email account type, the available options may vary
    Note If Corporate was selected, then complete these steps
  3. If presented, enter the appropriate info (e.g., Username, Password,Security type, etc.) then tap NEXT.
  4. If presented, enter the appropriate info (e.g., SMTP server, Port, Security type, etc.) then tap NEXT.
  5. Configure Account options as appropriate then tap NEXT.
  6. Enter an account name if desired then tap NEXT.
    Note If presented, ensure a name is entered for outgoing messages
  7. If desired, repeat steps 1 through 6 to set up additional accounts. When finished, tap DONE WITH EMAIL (located in the lower-right).

Corporate Email Setup (Exchange Active Sync)

  1. Enter your corporate email address and password then tap NEXT (located in the lower-right).
    Note If set up is unsuccessful, it can be set up manually.
  2. If presented with an Email activation prompt, review the info then tap OK to continue.
  3. If presented with a Remote security administration prompt, tap OK to continue.
  4. Configure the account options (e.g., Period to sync Email, Sync schedule, etc.) as necessary then tap NEXT.
  5. If presented with an "Activate device administrator" screen, tap Activate.
    Note Follow the on-screen steps to complete the applied security policy (e.g., Set up password, Device encryption).
    Note Device encryption can exceed 60 minutes.
  6. If desired, enter an account name then tap NEXT.
  7. If desired, repeat steps 1 through 6 to set up additional accounts. When finished, tap DONE WITH ACCOUNTS (located at the bottom).

Manually Setup Corporate Email Setup (Exchange Active Sync)

Note Contact your Exchange / IT Administrator for assistance with server info and credentials.

  1. Ensure that the appropriate info is entered into the following fields:
    • Email address
    • Domain\username
    • Password
    • Exchange server
  2. If applicable, configure the following then tap NEXT (located at the bottom):
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
    • Use secure connection (SSL)
    • Use client certificate
  3. If presented with an Activation prompt, review the info then tap OK.
  4. If presented with a Remote security administration prompt, tap OK.
  5. Configure the account options (e.g., Period to sync Email, Sync schedule, etc.) as necessary then tap NEXT.
  6. If presented with an "Activate device administrator" screen, tap Activate.
    Note Follow the on-screen steps to complete the applied security policy (e.g., Set up password, Device encryption).
    Note Device encryption can exceed 60 minutes.
  7. If desired, enter an account name then tap NEXT.

Add an Existing Google Account

  1. Enter the email address then tap NEXT (located in the lower right).
  2. Enter the email password then tap NEXT.
  3. Review the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy then tap ACCEPT (located in the lower-right) to continue.

Go back to continue with step 7 of first time setup

Create a New Google Account

  1. From the sign in screen, tap Or create a new account.
  2. Enter the appropriate name into the following fields then tap NEXT (located in the lower right).
    • First name
    • Last name
  3. Enter the desired username then tap NEXT.
  4. Enter then re-enter the preferred password then tap NEXT.
    Note The password must be at least 8 characters.
  5. From the Recovery phone screen, ensure the correct phone number is listed then tap NEXT.
  6. From the Confirm phone number screen, ensure the correct phone number is listed then tap Send It.
  7. Tap AGREE to accept the terms and conditions.
  8. Tap NEXT.
  9. From the Google services screen, tap Keep me up to date... to enable or disable then tap NEXT.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
  10. From the Set up payment info screen, select Remind me later then tap NEXT.
    Note Payment info can be completed later by navigating Apps > Play Store from a Home screen, tap a paid app, tap Continue then select a payment method.
  11. From the Sync your account screen, tap the appropriate sync settings (e.g., Sync Contacts, etc.) to enable or disable then tap NEXT.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.

Set Up Pattern Lock

Note An unlock pattern is created then utilized to unlock the device.

  1. Draw an unlock pattern (connecting at least 4 dots) then tap CONTINUE (located in the lower-right).
  2. Draw the same pattern again then tap CONFIRM (located in the lower-right).
  3. Select an option then tap NEXT.
    • Show content
    • Hide content
    • Don't show notifications

Set Up PIN Lock

Note A PIN is created then utilized to unlock the device.

  1. If presented with the PIN policy screen, tap OK.
  2. Enter a numeric PIN (4 to 16 digits) then tap CONTINUE (located in the lower-right).
  3. Re-enter the numeric PIN then tap OK (located in the lower-right).
  4. Select an option then tap NEXT.
    • Show content
    • Hide content
    • Don't show notifications

Set Up Password Lock

Note A password is created then utilized to access the device.

  1. If presented with the Password policy screen, tap OK.
  2. Enter a password (4 to 16 characters) then tap CONTINUE (located in the lower-right).
  3. Re-enter the password then tap OK (located in the lower-right).
  4. Select an option then tap NEXT.
    • Show content
    • Hide content
    • Don't show notifications

Set Up Samsung Account

Choose the appropriate option:

  • If you have never created a Samsung account before, tap Create Account.
  • If you have never created a Samsung account before and would like to use your existing Gmail account, tap Create with Google ID.
  • If you have created a Samsung account before, tap Sign in.

Create Samsung Account

Note Note: You may choose to log in using your Facebook credentials if you wish, by tapping Use your Facebook info. If you don't want to use Facebook to log in, proceed with the steps below.

  1. Tap Enter ID and enter your email address.
  2. Tap Enter password and enter a password between 8 -15 characters.
  3. Tap Show password if you would like the password to be visible on the screen
    Note Enabled when a checkmark is present
  4. Tap Confirm password then retype the password.
  5. Tap the Birthday field and use the up and down arrows to set your birthday then tap OK.
  6. Tap First name then enter your first name.
  7. Tap Last name then enter your last name.
  8. Tap Zip code and enter your zip code then tap Done.
  9. Tap Receive marketing information to enable or disable.
    Note Enabled when a checkmark is present
  10. Tap NEXT.
  11. Tap AGREE after reviewing the Terms and Conditions.
  12. Tap CONFIRM.
  13. Follow the steps sent to the email address used to sign up to verify your new Samsung Account.

Sign into Samsung Account

  1. Tap Enter ID and enter your Samsung ID.
  2. Tap Password and enter your password then tap SIGN IN.

Existing Customers (Only Applies if Upgrading from a Verizon Device)

Note If you're upgrading from iPhone®, you need to turn off iMessage before activating your new tablet.

  1. Save Contacts and Content from your Original phone using the Transfer Wizard.
  2. Start the Activation process by calling (877) 807-4646 from any phone other than your new phone and follow the prompts.
    Note Have your Customer Receipt available because you are asked to confirm purchase information
  3. Turn off your Original phone.

Turn off iMessage®

  1. On your iPhone go to Settings.
  2. Tap Messages.
  3. If the indicator next to the iMessage switch is green, tap or slide the switch to turn it off.
    Note When the feature is turned off, the switch is all white
