Hum+ by Verizon - Set Up Device

  • If you want to activate and set up your Hum+ account, view this info.
  • If you are upgrading your existing Verizon device, follow these steps to activate before proceeding with the instructions below.

caution The following Hum+ models can no longer can no longer be activated effective 12/31/2018 in preparation of CDMA retirement. Refer to CDMA retirement for more info.

Note Notes:

  • You can interact with vehicle data through the online account accessible from the customer portal or mobile app.
  • You must take an initial drive in the vehicle using the Hum+ device, view these install instructions for additional details.
  • To activate a replacement Hum device, refer to these steps.

Initial Activation - App

  1. Download the Hum app.
  2. Open the app then tap Get Started.

  3. From the 'Have a Hum system?' section, tap the Arrow.

  4. Enter the System ID.
    Note The System ID can be retrieved from the box label (shown in app below).
    Note If multiple Hum systems were purchased, enter the System ID of one on the account and the others auto-provision upon installation.

  5. Select an option then tap Send Code.
    • Mobile Number
    • Email Address

  6. Enter the Verification Code.

  7. Create a password with the following requirements then tap the Create Password:
    • At least eight characters in length
    • Contains at least 3 of the following:
      • Lowercase letter
      • Uppercase letter
      • Number
      • Special character (e.g., #, $, %, etc.)

  8. Tap Create Account.
  9. Enter the password then tap Login.

  10. To continue, review the Terms and Conditions then tap I Agree.

  11. If prompted, from the Primary Driver Contact (PDC) screen, enter the driver's name and mobile number then tap Add Driver.
    note PDC info is used to verify when assistance is needed if Hum detects a crash in your vehicle.

  12. Confirm the mobile number is correct then tap Yes.

  13. If prompted, review the important message pop up and tap Accept or Cancel.

  14. Enter an emergency contact and phone number then tap Add Contact.

  15. Tap Always Allow to give permission to log all trips and share your location.

  16. Tap Always Allow to give permission to enable Crash Detection.

  17. Tap Allow Motion & Fitness to give permission to improve accuracy during driving and location sharing.

  18. Plug the OBD reader into your vehicle's OBD-II port then tap Continue.

  19. Tap Notify Me to enable notifications.

  20. Tap OK to give permission to have notifications sent to you.

Initial Activation - Web

  1. From your web browser, go to the Hum website (www.hum.com) then tap Sign In (upper-right).
  2. Click create account.

  3. Enter the System ID.
    Note The System ID can be retrieved from the box label (below).
    Note If multiple Hum systems were purchased, enter the System ID of one on the account and the others auto-provision upon installation.

  4. Choose a method to receive your 6-digit activation PIN:
    • text
    • email (registered to account)
  5. Once received, enter the PIN into the space provided on the webpage.

  6. Create an 8-24 character password with at least 3 of the following:
    • lowercase
    • uppercase
    • numbers
    • special character
  7. Scroll down to enter an emergency contact and phone number.
  8. Click submit. If activation is successful, you receive the validation screen shown below.

  9. Proceed to the install instructions.

Install

  1. With the vehicle off, locate the vehicle's OBD-II port and install the reader.
    Note The Hum system consists of the following components:
    • OBD reader (below)
    • Speaker (needs to be charged for 6 hours)
    • Speaker charging cord

  2. If your Hum device includes a speaker, install the speaker by using the clip to place it on the driver's side sun visor.
    Note Ensure the volume is turned up by using the volume controls. The switch must be turned on for Bluetooth® calling to work, but all other Hum functions work even when switched off.
    Note Follow these instructions to connect to a phone via Bluetooth.

  3. Start the vehicle and take a 10-15 minute drive to allow the OBD reader to reach out to the network and complete activation.
    Note Once you have completed the installation and after your first drive, you can see dashboard updates on your app and through the web portal.
  4. Press the Customer Service button then press the Call button on the Speaker to interact with a Hum Specialist if desired.

Activate Certified Like-New Replacement Device

  1. To activate a replacement Hum device, call the VZW activation line (1-877-807-4646) and follow IVR prompts.
    Line note Ensure to have your Hum number available which can be found on the receipt inside the box.
    Line note It may take up to 10 minutes for your device to activate.
  2. When IVR activation steps are complete, make sure you're in a good coverage area (strong cell signal) then plug the new OBD Reader into the car.
  3. Once the new equipment is installed, take a 10-15 minute drive so the system can validate the equipment.
  4. Return the original Hum equipment using the prepaid shipping label included with your new Hum device.
