First time setup and activation - out of the box experience - LG K4®

Note This device comes with the SIM card already inserted.

Caution Are you upgrading from an existing Verizon Wireless device? Yes or No.

  1. If powered off, press and hold the Power button (located on the back) until the LG logo appears then release.
  2. Select the appropriate language option then tap the NEXT (located in the lower-right).
  3. From the "Verify your account" screen, enter Account PIN then follow the onscreen prompts.
    Note See Account PIN FAQs for additional info.
  4. Turn off your old phone to ensure the activation process completes.
  5. From the Phone Activation screen, tap NEXT or tap ACTIVATE NOW (located in the lower-right).
    Note Allow several minutes for activation to complete.
  6. From the Verizon Cloud screen, tap Next to complete setup.
  7. From the Email setup screen, add your email account(s). Click here to see how.
  8. From the "Add your account" (Google) screen, Add an Existing Google Account or Create a New Google Account.
  9. From the name screen, enter your first and last name (if preferred) then tap NEXT.
  10. If preferred, from the Protect your phone screen, tap Set Screen Lock Now and then tap one of the following:
  11. From the Google services screen, tap any of the following services to enable or disable then tap NEXT.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
    • Use Google's location service
    • Help improve location services
    • Help improve your Android experience
  12. From the Summary screen, tap DONE.

Verizon Cloud

  1. Tap the items you would like Verizon Cloud to back up then tap Next.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
  2. Choose how you would like Verizon Cloud to back up content:
    • Wi-Fi Only
    • Both Wi-Fi and Mobile Networks
  3. Tap Done with Cloud.

Email Setup

  1. From a Home screen, navigate: Apps icon Apps icon > Settings Settings icon > Accounts.
  2. Tap ADD ACCOUNTS (located at the bottom right).
  3. Tap Email then select the provider (e.g., AOL, Verizon.net, Other, etc.).
  4. Enter the appropriate info (e.g., Email address, Password, etc.) then tap NEXT.
    Note If not presented with manual setup, account setup has completed. Skip to step 6.
  5. For manual setup enter the the following settings:
    1. Enter the appropriate account type (e.g., POP3, IMAP4, etc.) then tap Next.
    2. Enter the desired incoming & outgoing servers name.
      Note Ensure 'Require sing-in' is checked Check mark in the SMTP server settings section.
    3. From security type dropdown select the desired security type (e.g., SSL, TLS, etc.).
    4. Enter the appropriate port number.
    5. Enter the appropriate info (e.g., Username & Password, etc.) then tap NEXT.
  6. Enter the appropriate info (e.g., Account name, Your Name, etc.) then tap DONE.
    Note Depending upon the email account type, the available options may vary.

Corporate Email Setup (Exchange Active Sync)

  1. Note Contact the Exchange / IT Administrator for assistance with server information and credentials.

    1. From a Home screen, tap Apps icon Apps icon > Settings Settings icon.
    2. Tap ADD ACCOUNT.
    3. Tap Microsoft Exchange Application icon.
    4. Enter your corporate email address and password then tap Next (located in the lower-right).
      Note If set up is unsuccessful, tap Manual setup then set up manually (begin with step 4).
    5. If presented, ensure that the appropriate info is entered into the following fields:
      • Email address
      • Server address
      • Domain
      • Port number
      • Username
      • Password
    6. If applicable, configure the following then tap NEXT (located in the lower right):
      • Use secure connection (SSL)
        Note Enabled when a check mark Check mark is present.
      • Client certificate
    7. If presented with a Remote security administration prompt, tap YES.
    8. Configure the account settings (e.g., Days to sync Email, Update schedule, etc.) as necessary then tap NEXT.
    9. If desired, enter an account name then tap DONE.
    10. From a Home screen, navigate: Apps icon Apps icon > Email.
    11. From Phone administrator section, tap ACTIVATE.
    12. Set up device password per Exchange policy.
    13. If presented, tap YES to encrypt phone.
      Note Device encryption can exceed up to 60 minutes.

Manually Setup Corporate Email Setup (Exchange Active Sync)

Add an Existing Google Account

  1. From a Home screen, navigate: Apps icon Apps icon > Settings Settings icon > Accounts.
  2. Tap ADD ACCOUNTS (located at the bottom right).
  3. Tap Google Google icon.
  4. Enter the Gmail username then tap NEXT(located in the lower right).
  5. Enter the email password then tap NEXT.
  6. If presented, review the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy then tap Accept.
  7. If preferred, tap Back up data to your device's apps, app data, settings and Wi-Fi passwords to enable then tap NEXT.
  8. If presented "Set up payment info", tap No thanks then tap CONTINUE.
    Note To set up payment info after adding a Google account:
    1. From a Home screen, navigate: Apps > Play Store.
    2. Tap a paid app.
    3. Tap the price of the app.
    4. Tap CONTINUE then select a payment method.

Create a New Google Account

  1. From a Home screen, navigate: Apps Apps icon > Settings Settings icon > Accounts.
  2. Tap ADD ACCOUNTS (located at the bottom right).
  3. Tap Google Google icon.
  4. Tap Create A New Account.
  5. Enter the appropriate name into the First and Last fields then tap the NEXT (located in the lower right).
  6. Enter the desired username then tap NEXT.
  7. Enter a password into the following fields then tap NEXT.
    Note The password must be at least 8 characters.
    • Password
    • Re-type password
  8. From the Confirm phone number screen, ensure the correct phone number is listed then tap NEXT.
  9. Review the Terms of Service / Privacy Policy then tap AGREE.
  10. From the "Your Google Account" screen, tap NEXT.
  11. Enable any of the following then tap NEXT:
    Note Enabled when a check mark Check mark is present
    • Keep me up to date.
  12. From the Set up payment info screen, select No Thanks then tap NEXT.
    Note Enabling entertainment purchases can be resumed by navigating Apps Apps icon > Play Store play store icon from the home screen, tap a paid app then choose a payment option.
  13. If presented configure the preferred synchronization settings (e.g., Sync App Data, Sync Gmail, etc.).

Knock Code

Note Unlock the screen by tapping a pattern.

  1. Tap Knock Code.
  2. Tap NEXT.
  3. From the Set Knock Code screen, tap the squares in the preferred pattern then tap DONE.
    Note Code must be 2 - 8 taps.
  4. From the Confirm knock code screen, tap the squares in the same pattern again then tap CONFIRM.
  5. From the Choose backup PIN screen, enter a numeric PIN (4 to 16 digits) then tap Continue.
  6. Re-enter the numeric PIN then tap OK.
  7. If prompted, select one the following then tap OK.
    • Show all content
    • Hide sensitive only
    • Hide all notifications

Go back to continue with step 11 of first time setup

Set Up Pattern Lock

Note A pattern is created then utilized to access the device.

  1. Tap Pattern.
  2. Tap NEXT.
  3. Draw an unlock pattern (connecting at least 4 dots) then tap Continue.
  4. Re-draw the pattern then tap CONFIRM.
  5. If prompted, select one the following then tap OK.
    • Show all content
    • Hide sensitive only
    • Hide all notifications

Set Up PIN Lock

Note A PIN is created then utilized to access the device.

  1. Tap PIN.
  2. Enter a numeric PIN (4 to 16 digits) then tap NEXT.
  3. Re-enter the numeric PIN then tap OK.
  4. If prompted, select one the following then tap OK.
    • Show all content
    • Hide sensitive only
    • Hide all notifications

Go back to continue with step 11 of first time setup

Set Up Password Lock

Note A password is created then utilized to access the device.

  1. Tap Password.
  2. Enter a password (4 to 16 characters) then tap NEXT.
  3. Re-enter the password then tap OK.
  4. If prompted, select one the following then tap OK.
    • Show all content
    • Hide sensitive only
    • Hide all notifications

Go back to continue with step 11 of first time setup

Existing Customers (Only Applies if Upgrading from a Verizon Device)

  1. Save Contacts and Content from your Original phone using the Transfer Wizard.
  2. If the new device is powered off, press and hold the Power button (located on the back) until the LG logo appears then release.
  3. Select the appropriate language option then tap the NEXT (located in the lower-right).
  4. From the "Verify your account" screen, enter the Account PIN then follow the onscreen prompts.

  5. Turn off your Original phone.
