Apple® iPhone® - Manage Audio Alerts

Note Notes:

  • If the device won't ring or vibrate, ensure Silent Mode is turned off.
  • Review Turn Notifications On/Off for assistance with on-screen notifications.
  • The steps below apply to the following models:
    • iPhone X / XS / XS Max / XR
    • iPhone 8 / 8 Plus
    • iPhone 7 / 7 Plus
    • iPhone SE
    • iPhone 6 / 6 Plus / 6s / 6s Plus
    • iPhone 5 / 5c / 5s
    • iPhone 4 / 4s

 

  1. From the Home screen, navigate: Settings Settings icon > Sounds.
     For the iPhone 7 and above, navigate Settings > Sounds & Haptics.
  2. Tap any of the following switch(es) to turn on Switch On or off Switch Off:
    • Vibrate on Ring
    • Vibrate on Silent
  3. From the Ringer and Alerts section, adjust the volume indicator as desired.
  4. Tap the Change with Buttons switch to turn on or off.
     If turned on, this allows you to use the physical buttons on the left side of the device to control the volume.
  5. From the Sounds and Vibration Patterns section, select any of the following:
    • Ringtone
    • Text Tone
    • New Voicemail
    • New Mail
    • Sent Mail
    • Calendar Alerts
    • Reminder Alerts
    • AirDrop
  6. From any of the sections listed above, tap Vibration (at the top) then select an option (e.g., Alert, etc.).
    Selected when a check mark is present.
  7. Tap the Back icon back arrow icon (upper-left) 2 times to return to the Sounds main screen.
  8. Tap any of the following switches to turn on or off:
    • Keyboard Clicks
    • Lock Sound
