Samsung Galaxy S8 / S8+ - Auto Switch Between Wi-Fi & Mobile Data Networks

To automatically switch from a weak or unstable Wi-Fi network to the Verizon Wireless cellular network to preserve a consistent data connection, view this info.

Note Notes:

  • When enabled, this advanced setting allows the device to switch from a weak or unstable Wi-Fi network to the Verizon Wireless cellular network to preserve consistent data throughput.
  • This function is not enabled by default; the device prompts the user to enable the feature the first time they experience poor Wi-Fi connectivity Wifi weak icon.

Caution When connected to the Verizon Wireless cellular network, data overage charges may apply (depending upon data plan). For data usage information, refer to the My Verizon website.

Prompted to Switch Networks

  1. Slide down the Notification Bar and tap Your Internet connection is unstable.
  2. If presented with the "Smart Switch" pop-up, tap OK.
    Note When the Wi-Fi connection is unstable, taping OK activates this feature and the device automatically switches to the mobile network.
    Note If preferred, tap Do not show again before taping OK to prevent the unstable Wi-Fi connection prompt.

Enable or Disable the Auto Network Switch Setting

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
    Note These instructions apply to Standard mode only.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate:Settings Settings icon > Connections Connections settings icon > Wi-Fi.
  3. Ensure the Wi-Fi switch is turned on Switch On icon then tap the Menu icon Action overflow icon.
  4. Tap Advanced.
  5. From Adaptive Wi-Fi, tap the Switch to mobile data to turn on Switch On icon or off Switch Off icon.
