Configure TalkBack Settings - Android™

Note Notes:

  • TalkBack provides spoken feedback for what you tap, select and activate on the device.
  • For additional instructions on setting up TalkBack, refer to Get started on Android with TalkBack.
  • If Google Voice™ is turned on, you can ask Google Assistant to turn TalkBack on or off.
  • When TalkBack is on, use the two-finger swipe gesture to navigate/scroll, tap once to highlight then double tap to select.

 

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
    Note If unavailable, tap the Apps icon apps icon.
  2. Navigate: Settings > Accessibility.
  3. Tap TalkBack.
    Note If needed, tap Installed Services or Vision then tap TalkBack.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Select from the following then configure as preferred:
    Note Available options may vary depending upon device.
    • Speech volume
      • Match media volume
      • 75% of media volume
      • 50% of media volume
      • 25% of media volume
    • Text to speech settings
      Note Adjust sliders to modify speech rate and pitch.
    • Verbosity
      • Choose a preset
      • Keyboard echo
      • Speak usage hints
      • Speak list and grid information
      • Speak element type
      • Speak phonetic letters
      • Use pitch changes
      • Speak when screen is off
      • Item description order
    • Use proximity sensor
      Note Tap the switch to turn on Switch on or off Switch off.
    • Shake to start continuous reading
      • Disabled
      • Very light
      • Light
      • Medium
      • Hard
      • Very hard
