Caution Caution:

  • When the SD / Memory Card is formatted as portable storage, the stored data on the card can be transferred to other devices.
  • When the SD / Memory Card is formatted as internal storage, it's encrypted to protect your stored data and cannot be transferred to other devices.
  • When formatted, all current stored data on the card is erased. It's recommended to back up your music, pictures and videos.

Format as Portable Storage

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
  2. Navigate: Settings Settings icon > Storage Storage icon.
  3. Tap SD / Memory Card.
    Note The name of the SD / Memory Card varies by manufacturer.
  4. Tap the Menu icon Menu icon (upper-right).
  5. Tap Storage settings.
  6. Tap Format.
  7. Tap Format SD Card.
    Note Allow several seconds for the process to complete.
  8. From the 'Your SD card is ready to use' prompt, tap Done.

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
  2. Navigate: Settings Settings icon > Storage Storage icon.
  3. Tap SD / Memory Card.
    Note The name of the SD / Memory Card varies by manufacturer.
  4. Tap the Menu icon Menu icon (upper-right).
  5. Tap Storage settings.
  6. Tap Format as Internal.
    Note When formatted as internal storage, data stored on the card cannot be transferred to other devices.
  7. Tap Format SD Card.
    Note Allow several seconds for the process to complete.
  8. From the 'Move content to SD card?' prompt, select one of the following:
    Note This moves media, apps, etc. from internal storage to the SD / Memory Card.
    • Move content later
    • Move content
      Note Allow several seconds for the process to complete.
  9. From the 'Your SD card is ready to use' prompt, tap Done.
