First time setup and activation - out of the box experience - moto g6 play

Note To activate the device on prepaid service, refer to Set up Verizon Prepaid Service.

 

Caution Are you upgrading from an existing Verizon Wireless device? Yes or No.

 

  1. If powered off, press and hold the Power button (located on the right edge) until the Motorola logo appears then release.
  2. Tap the appropriate language then tap Let's Go.
    Note Allow several seconds for activation to complete.
  3. From the 'Phone Activation' screen, tap Next.
  4. From the 'Welcome' screen tap an option:
    • Copy your data
      Note Data can also be transferred at a later time.
    • Set up as new
  5. From the Set up Wi-Fi screen, select and connect to the desired network or tap SKIP (lower-right).
  6. From the 'Sign in' (Google) screen, you can Add an Existing Google Account, Create a New Google Account (by tapping More options) or tap SKIP.
    Note If presented with "Skip account setup?" tap SKIP again.
  7. Enter your name then tap Next.
  8. From the 'Unlock with fingerprint' screen, tap Skip > SKIP ANYWAY.
    Note Once setup is complete, refer to Set Up Screen Lock.
  9. From the 'Google services' screen, tap any of the following services to enable or disable, then tap Next.
    Note By tapping Next you are also agreeing to the Google Terms of Service.
    • Use Google's location service to help apps
    • Improve location accuracy
    • Help improve your Android experience
  10. From the Verizon Cloud screen, tap Next to complete setup.
  11. From the Email setup screen, add your email account(s). Click here to see how.
  12. From the 'About your privacy' screen tap Accept to use current settings or tap Privacy settings to make changes.
  13. Tap Got It.

 

 

Verizon Cloud

  1. Tap the item(s) you would like Verizon Cloud to back up then tap Next.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
  2. Choose how you would like Verizon Cloud to back up content:
    • Wi-Fi Only
    • Both Wi-Fi and Mobile Networks
  3. Tap Done with Cloud.

Email Setup

  1. Tap the account type.
  2. Enter the email address then tap the Next icon Next icon (lower-right).
    Note Depending upon the email account type, the available options may vary
    Note If Microsoft Exchange Active Sync was selected, then complete these steps.
  3. Enter the email address then tap the Next icon Next icon.
  4. Enter the password then tap the Next icon Next icon.
  5. If presented, enter the appropriate info (e.g., Username, Password, Server, SMTP server, port, security type, etc.) then tap the Next icon Next icon.
    Note If you're not sure what your server info is, here are some common personal email server addresses. Contact your email provider if additional assistance is needed or your server info isn't listed.
  6. Configure account options as appropriate then tap the Next icon Next icon.
    Note Depending upon the email account type, the available options may vary.
  7. Enter an account name if desired then tap the Next icon.
    Note If presented, ensure a name is entered for outgoing messages.

Corporate Email Setup (Exchange Active Sync)

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
  2. Navigate: Settings Settings icon > Users & accounts.
  3. Tap Add account.
  4. Tap Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
  5. Enter your corporate email address and password then tap SIGN IN (lower-right).
    Note If set up is unsuccessful, tap Manual setup then set up manually (begin with step 5).
  6. If needed, engage your Exchange/IT admin for additional support on:
    • Email address
    • Server address
    • Domain
    • Port number
    • Username
    • Password
    • Activate device administration
      • To apply corporate security policy (e.g., Set up password, Device encryption).
        Note Device encryption can exceed 60 minutes.
    • Sync options (e.g., Email, Contacts, Calendar)

Manually Setup Corporate Email Setup (Exchange Active Sync)

Note Contact your Exchange/IT administrator for assistance with server info and credentials.

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
  2. Navigate: Settings Settings icon > Users & accounts.
  3. Tap Add account.
  4. Tap Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
  5. Enter your corporate email address and password then tap MANUAL SETUP (lower-left).
  6. If needed, engage your Exchange/IT admin for additional support on:
    • Email address
    • Server address
    • Domain
    • Port number
    • Username
    • Password
    • Activate device administration
      • To apply corporate security policy (e.g., Set up password, Device encryption).
        Note Device encryption can exceed 60 minutes.
    • Sync options (e.g., Email, Contacts, Calendar)

Add an Existing Google Account

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
  2. Navigate: Settings Settings icon > Users & accounts > Add account.
  3. Tap Google Google.
    Note If presented, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.
  4. Enter the Gmail address then tap NEXT (lower-right).
  5. Enter the password then tap NEXT.
  6. To continue, review the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy then tap I AGREE.
    Note To review the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, tap the appropriate link and language then tap Close (at the bottom) when finished.
  7. If presented, tap the Back up to Google Drive switch to turn on Switch on or off Switch off then tap I AGREE.

Create a New Google Account

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
  2. Navigate: Settings Settings icon > Users & accounts > Add account.
  3. Tap Google Google.
    Note If presented, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.
  4. Tap Create account.
  5. Enter the appropriate name into the First and Last fields then tap NEXT (lower-right):
  6. Enter your birthday and gender into the appropriate fields.
  7. Enter the desired info into the Username field then tap NEXT.
  8. Enter a password into the following fields then tap NEXT:
    Note The password must be at least 8 characters.
    • Create password
    • Confirm password
  9. From the Add your phone number screen, ensure the correct phone number is listed, tap NEXT then tap Verify.
    Note A verification message is sent to the device.
    Note If you don't wish to include a recovery phone number, tap Skip.
  10. To continue, review the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy then tap I Agree (lower-right).
    Note To review the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, tap the appropriate link and language then tap Close when finished.
  11. If presented, tap the Back up to Google Drive switch to turn on Switch on or off Switch off then tap AGREE.
  12. From the Thanks screen, tap NEXT.

Set up PIN, pattern or password

Select one of the following then tap Next:

 

Set Up Pattern Lock

Note An unlock pattern is created to access the device.

  1. From the 'Secure start-ip' screen, tap YES.
  2. Draw an unlock pattern (connecting at least 4 dots) then tap CONTINUE.
  3. Draw the same pattern again then tap CONFIRM.
  4. If presented, select an option then tap DONE (located in the lower-right).
    • Show all notification content
    • Hide sensitive notification content
    • Don't show notifications at all

Set Up PIN Lock

Note A PIN number is created to access the device.

  1. From the 'Secure start-ip' screen, tap YES.
  2. Enter a numeric PIN (4 to 16 digits) then tap CONTINUE.
  3. Re-enter the numeric PIN then tap OK.
  4. If presented, select an option then tap DONE (located in the lower-right).
    • Show all notification content
    • Hide sensitive notification content
    • Don't show notifications at all

Set Up Password Lock

Note A password is created to access the device.

  1. From the 'Secure start-up' screen, tap YES.
  2. Enter a password (4 to 16 characters) then tap CONTINUE.
  3. Re-enter the password then tap OK.
  4. If presented, select an option then tap DONE (located in the lower-right).
    • Show all notification content
    • Hide sensitive notification content
    • Don't show notifications at all

Set Up Fingerprint Lock

Note: A fingerprint is utilized to unlock the device. For the fingerprint scanner to operate, hands must be clean and free of moisture, dirt, oil, lotion, dyes, etc.

  1. Select a backup screen lock option then tap Next
  2. From the Add fingerprint screen tap Start.
  3. Touch the scanner until it vibrates, then lift and repeat (as shown in the on-screen tutorial).
    Note Place finger flat against the fingerprint sensor.
    Note On-screen fingerprint image fills and percentage indicator increases when successful.
  4. When the percentage indicator reaches 100% tap Done.

Existing Customers (Only Applies if Upgrading from a Verizon Device)

Note If you're upgrading from iPhone®, you need to turn off iMessage before activating your new phone.

  1. Save Contacts and Content from your original phone using the Transfer Wizard.
  2. Start the Activation process by calling (877) 807-4646 from any phone other than your new phone and follow the prompts.
    Note Have your customer receipt available because you are asked to confirm purchase info.
  3. Turn off your previously used phone.

Turn off iMessage®

  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings.
  2. Tap Messages.
  3. If the indicator next to the iMessage switch is green, tap or slide the switch to turn it off.
    Note When the feature is turned off, the switch is all white.
