Minimum System Requirements and Device Capabilities - Verizon Wireless Network Extender (1X)

System Requirements:

  • An always-on broadband Internet connection with a minimum speed of 300 kbps.
  • An available ethernet (WAN) port on a router / modem that has the following capabilities:
    Note Refer to the router / modem product documentation to confirm compatibility.
    • Virtual Private Networking (VPN)
    • Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)
    • Internet Protocol Security (IPSEC)
    • Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)

Users may notice a small decrease in available Internet bandwidth when using the Network Extender. The table below outlines bandwidth requirements based on the number of active callers:

Device capabilities:

The Network Extender supports CDMA voice and 1X data services only. These services include:

  • Voice services (up to 3 channels)
    Note A fourth call channel is reserved to support emergency (E911) calls only.
  • Text, Picture, and Video messaging
  • Mobile Web NationalAccess Smartphone / BlackBerry data
  • Push to Talk (via 1X only)

 

 

1 Routers may require special configuration (e.g. Firewall, Quality of Service (QoS) settings) to ensure the best possible call quality. Refer to router equipment manufacturer for assistance with these settings. Examples of router setup are provided here; however, Verizon Wireless doesn't support 3rd party routers. Furthermore, variations in Internet connectivity from the Internet Service Provider (ISP) may affect QoS as well. Refer to the router manufacturer or ISP for assistance.
