Samsung Galaxy Note9 - Activate / Set Up Device

If you need to transfer contacts and media from one device to another, follow these step-by-step instructions before activating the new device.

Caution To avoid potential issues, review the following:


  1. If powered off, press and hold the Power button until the 'Samsung Galaxy Note9' screen appears then release.
  2. Select the appropriate language then tap the Start arrow icon.

  3. To continue, review the 'Terms and Conditions' screen then tap Next.

  4. From the 'Phone activation' screen, tap Next.
    Note If prompted, enter the account PIN then follow the onscreen prompts (see Account PIN FAQs for additional info).
    Note If activating a new phone, ensure the old phone is powered off.

  5. From the 'Bring your old data for quicker setup' screen, Select the preferred option then tap Next.

  6. From the 'Set up Wi-Fi' screen, select a network then enter the password.
    Note If you choose 'Skip', you can add Wi-Fi networks after setup is complete.

  7. Sign into your existing Google™ account or create a new one.
    Note If you choose 'Skip', proceed to step 12 to continue with setup. You can add your Google account after setup is complete.

  8. Review the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy then tap I agree.

  9. If prompted with 'Choose a backup to restore', tap the preferred backup.
    Note Tap 'Don't restore' if you don't want to restore data from a previous device.

  10. From the 'Protect your phone' screen, tap an option.
    Note If you choose 'Not now', you can add a screen lock or set up face, iris or fingerprint recognition after setup is complete.

  11. From the 'How to talk to your Assistant' screen, review the info then tap Continue.

  12. From the 'Google services' screen, select any of the following to turn on Switch on or off Switch off then tap Accept:

    • Back up to Google Drive
    • Use location
    • Allow scanning
    • Send usage and diagnostic data

  13. From the 'Verizon Cloud' screen, tap Next.
    Note If you choose 'Skip', you can set up Verizon Cloud after setup is complete.

  14. From the 'Email setup' screen, select an email account type then enter your sign-in info.

  15. From the 'Security & Privacy' screen, tap Accept.

  16. From the 'Sign in to your Samsung account' screen, sign in to your existing account or create a new Samsung account.

  17. From the 'Setup Wizard is complete' screen, tap Done (lower-right).
