Samsung Galaxy Watch - Activate / Set Up Device

Set up your new Galaxy Watch using one of the following companion device options:

 

Set Up Using an Android Smartphone

Note Notes:

  • The Galaxy Watch can be set up via NumberShare or as a standalone device. To use the Galaxy Watch without a companion device, complete the steps below then refer to Set Up as a Standalone Device.
  • If you're replacing an existing Samsung smartwatch, refer to Replace Existing Device.
  • If you're pairing an existing Galaxy Watch with a new smartphone, refer to Connect to New Phone.
  • Before completing these steps, verify:
    • your eSIM activation has been processed and you've received the QR code via email.
    • you're in a Verizon coverage area.
    • your companion Android smartphone has a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.
      Note If activating with NumberShare, the companion smartphone must be connected to active Verizon service on the same account as the Galaxy Watch.

 

  1. Ensure the Galaxy Watch is charged and powered on.
    Note If necessary, tap the watch display to begin.
  2. Install the Galaxy Wearable app Galaxy Wearable app icon on your companion Android smartphone.
  3. Open the Galaxy Wearable app.
  4. Tap Get Started.

  5. Tap Galaxy Watch 46mm/42mm.
    Note If prompted, tap Allow to approve the necessary permissions.

  6. Ensure the passkey matches what's displayed on the Galaxy Watch then tap 'PAIR' or 'Connect' on the smartphone and the Checkmark icon Checkmark icon on the Galaxy Watch.
  7. If using a non-Samsung Android smartphone to complete setup, tap OK then tap Install to allow the Gear Plugin and Samsung Accessory Service to install.
  8. Review the Privacy Policy and End User License Agreement on your smartphone then tap Agree.

  9. If using a non-Samsung Android smartphone to complete setup, when prompted with 'Allow Galaxy Watch PlugIn to...', tap ALLOW.
  10. Review (check) the Terms and conditions for each option then tap Next.
    Note You can agree to all or some of the services; however, accepting all the Samsung services improves your experience on the Galaxy Watch.

  11. If prompted, tap SIGN IN to complete Samsung account setup.
    Note If you choose 'Skip', you can add a Samsung account after setup is complete.

  12. If prompted, tap Check for backup to retrieve a previous Samsung smartwatch backup.
    Note If you prefer to set up as new, tap Skip for now.

  13. Select the data (e.g., Phone, Messages, etc.) you want to restore then tap Restore.

  14. Do one of the following:
    • Set up with a QR code:
      1. From the 'Mobile service for your watch' screen, select I have a QR code or activation code then tap Next.

      2. Point the smartphone's camera at the QR code below and scan it.
        Note The QR code will only work if the Galaxy Watch has been activated on a Verizon mobile number.

    • Set up without a QR code on an existing Verizon account with a new NumberShare line of service (if the Galaxy Watch was purchased outside of Verizon):
      1. From the 'Mobile service for your watch' screen, tap Next.

      2. Enter your My Verizon password then tap Continue.

      3. Review the info, then tap Yes, add device.
        Note To continue without activating the watch, tap Not now.

  15. Tap Connect on your smartphone.

  16. Tap Next on your smartphone.

  17. From the 'Tap to connect to the mobile network' message on your watch, tap CONNECT.
    Note The watch restarts.
    Note This process may take up to 2 minutes.

Note Continue to use in conjunction with a companion smartphone for maximum functionality. To un-pair your companion smartphone and use the Galaxy Watch as a standalone device, reset the watch then set up as a standalone device.
Caution Standalone mode can't be used with NumberShare.

Pair / Activate Galaxy Watch with Apple iPhone

Note Notes:

  • The Galaxy Watch can be set up via NumberShare or as a standalone device. To use the Galaxy Watch without a companion device, complete the steps below then refer to Set Up as a Standalone Device.
    Note If activating with NumberShare, the companion Apple iPhone must be connected to active Verizon service on the same account as the Galaxy Watch.
  • If you are replacing an existing Samsung smartwatch, refer to Replace Existing Device.
  • If you're pairing an existing Galaxy Watch with a new smartphone, refer to Connect to New Phone.
  • Before completing these steps, verify:

    • your companion Apple iPhone has a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.

 

  1. Ensure the Galaxy Watch is charged and powered on.

  2. Install the Samsung Galaxy Watch (Gear S) app Galaxy Wearable app icon on your companion Apple iPhone.
  3. Open the Samsung Galaxy Watch (Gear S) app.
  4. If prompted with 'Galaxy Watch Would Like to Use Bluetooth', tap OK.
    Note If necessary, tap Settings then tap the Bluetooth switch to turn on Switch on icon.
  5. Tap START THE JOURNEY.

  6. Tap Galaxy Watch 46mm/42mm.

  7. From the 'Watches spotted nearby' screen, tap Galaxy Watch.
  8. From the 'Bluetooth Pairing Request' prompt on the companion iPhone, tap Pair then tap the Checkmark icon checkmark on watch on the Galaxy Watch.
  9. Review the Privacy Policy and End User License Agreement, check the desired options (e.g., Bixby and other voice services, Report diagnostic info, etc.) then tap AGREE.

  10. If prompted, tap 'Allow' or 'OK' to let the Galaxy Watch send you notifications, access your calendar, or access your contacts.
  11. Tap SIGN IN to complete Samsung account setup.
    Note If you choose 'SKIP', you can add a Samsung account after setup is complete.

  12. From the 'Mobile service for your watch' screen, select Use code.

  13. Tap OK to allow Galaxy Watch to access your camera.

  14. Point the iPhone's camera at the QR code below and scan it.
    Note The QR code will only work if the Galaxy Watch has been activated on a Verizon mobile number.

  15. If presented, select the desired location permission option:
    • Only While Using the App
    • Always Allow
    • Don't Allow
  16. Tap CONNECT.

  18. From the 'Tap to connect to the mobile network' message on your watch, tap CONNECT.
    Note The watch restarts.
