Apple® iPhone® XS / XS Max First time setup and activation - out of the box experience

Note This device comes with the SIM card already inserted.

Caution Are you upgrading from an existing Verizon Wireless device? Yes or No.

  1. If powered off, press and hold the Power button (right edge) until the Apple logo appears then release.
  2. Tap the screen to select your language then tap the country or region.
  3. Choose the option that best fits you:
    Quick Start
    If you have an iPhone or iPad running iOS 11 or 12 bring it nearby to sign in automatically
    Set Up Manually
    Choose this if you don't have another iOS 11 or 12 device, or wish to set up with a different Apple ID

 

Activation

  1. Tap the Wi-Fi network and enter the Wi-Fi password then tap Next.
    Note If preferred tap Use Cellular Connection.
  2. From the Data & Privacy section, tap Continue.
  3. From the 'Face ID' screen tap Continue, then tap Get Started button.
  4. Follow instructions to rotate your face within the designated screen area until the process is complete then press Continue.
    Note Face ID uses facial recognition in place of a passcode.
  5. From the 'Create a Passcode' screen, enter then reenter a passcode.
    Note Mandatory for Face ID setup.
  6. Tap a setup option:
  7. Enter your Apple ID and password then tap Next.
    Note If you have an Apple ID already in use on another device, a verification code is sent to that device; you must enter this code to proceed with activation.
    Note If you don't have an Apple ID or have forgotten your log-in info, refer to one of the following:
  8. To continue, review the Terms and Conditions then tap Agree.
  9. If prompted, tap Agree to confirm.
  10. From the 'Express Settings' screen, choose one of the following:
    • To use, tap Continue
    • Customize Settings
  11. From 'Your iPhone up to Date' screen, choose one of the following:
    • To use, tap Continue
    • Install Updates Manually
  12. From the 'iMessage & FaceTime' screen, choose one of the following:
    • To use, tap Continue
    • Not Now
  13. From the 'Siri' screen, choose one of the following following:
    • To use, tap Continue
    • Tap 'Set up Later in Settings'
  14. From the Screen Time screen, choose one of the following:
    • To use, tap Continue
    • Set Up Later in Settings
  15. From the App Analytics screen, choose one of the following:
    • Share with App Developers
    • Don't Share
  16. From the True Tone Display screen, choose one of the following:
    • To use, tap Continue
    • See without True Tone Display
  17. From the 'Go Home' screen, tap Continue.
  18. From the 'Switch Between Recent Apps' screen, tap Continue
  19. From the 'Quickly Access Controls' screen, tap Continue
  20. From the 'Welcome to iPhone' screen, swipe up to get started. 

 

 

iTunes Activation Method

Note Requirements to use this method of activation:

 

Caution During the activation process specific update and restore error messages may be received within iTunes.

  1. From the computer, close any open apps.
  2. Open the iTunes app on the computer.
  3. If prompted with an available software update, it's recommended to download and update.
  4. Connect the iPhone to the computer via USB cable.
  5. Press the Power button (top-right edge) to power the iPhone on.
  6. From the 'Welcome to Your iPhone' screen, select one of the following:
    • Set up as new iPhone
    • Restore from this back up (select preferred backup)
  7. From the Sync with iTunes screens, click Get Started.
  8. From the iTunes home page, select the preferred Sync option.
  9. From the 'Activation' screen, confirm your phone number then tap Next.
  10. Enter the Account PIN then tap Next.

    Note If activating a new phone, ensure the old phone is powered off and allow several minutes for the deactivation of the old phone to complete.
    Note If activation is successful, proceed with step 11; if not, follow on-screen instructions or contact us.
  11. From the phone, choose a Wi-Fi network, enter the credentials then tap Join.
  12. From the 'Data & Privacy' section, tap Continue.
  13. When prompted to set up Face ID, tap Continue then tap Get Started
  14. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete setup or tap Set Up Later in Settings
  15. Enter a 6-digit passcode, re-enter passcode.
  16. Tap a Set Up option:
    • Restore from iCloud Backup
    • Restore from iTunes Backup
    • Set Up as New iPhone
    • Move Data from Android
  17. Enter your Apple ID and password then tap Next
    Note If you don't have an Apple ID or forgotten your sign-in infro, refer to one of the following:
    • Create An Apple ID
    • Recover Apple ID
  18. Review the Terms and Conditions then tap Agree.
  19. From the 'Express Settings' screen, tap 'Continue' or 'Customize Settings'.
  20. From the 'Keep Your iPhone Up to Date' screen, tap 'Continue' or 'Install Updates Manually'.
  21. From the 'iMessages & FaceTime' screen, tap 'Continue' or 'Not Now'.
  22. From the 'Siri' screen, tap 'Continue' or 'Set up Later in Settings'.
  23. From the 'Screen Time' screen, tap 'Continue' or 'Set Up Later in Settings'.
  24. Tap whether to share analytics with app developers by tapping 'Share with App Developers' or 'Don't Share'.
  25. From the 'True Tone Display' screen, tap Continue.
  26. From the 'Go Home' screen, tap Continue.
  27. From the 'Quickly Access Controls' screen, tap Continue
  28. Tap Continue to complete.
  29. Enter a 6-digit passcode then re-enter to confirm.
  30. Enter your Apple ID and password.
  31. If prompted, review the Terms and Conditions then tap Agree.
  32. Congratulations! Your iPhone setup is complete!

 

Quick Start

  1. Place the other device near your iPhone.
  2. When prompted on the other device, tap Continue.
  3. Following the prompts on the device screens, use the other device's camera to capture the image on the screen of your new iPhone.
  4. Tap Continue.

 

 

Existing Customers (Only Applies if Upgrading from a Verizon Device)

Caution Caution:

  • Make sure Find My iPhone is turned off on your old iPhone before proceeding.
  • To avoid potential data charges, use Wi-Fi when backing up or restoring content.

 

  1. Save contacts and media from your original phone using iTunes or iCloud.
    Note Ensure you have the latest version of iTunes. If you're new to iTunes, you need to download the latest version from the Apple website.
    Note Make sure your new device is activated on the cellular network before restoring content.
  2. Turn off your original phone.
  3. Press the Power button (located in the top-right edge) to power the iPhone on.
  4. Tap the screen to select your language then tap the country or region.
  5. From the 'Activation' screen, confirm your phone number then tap Next.
  6. Enter the Account PIN then tap Next.

    Note Allow several minutes for the deactivation of the old phone to complete.
    Note If activation successful, continue with set up steps; if not, follow on-screen instructions or contact us.
