Apple® iPhone® - Dual SIM with an eSIM - Add Cellular Plan

Note Before completing the steps below, verify:

  • You have one of the following devices:
    • iPhone XS / XS Max
    • iPhone XR
  • Your device is unlocked:
     Note Only unlocked devices are eligible for the dual SIM functionality.
    • iPhones purchased directly from Verizon are unlocked within 24 hours after activation.
    • iPhones purchased directly from Apple are always unlocked.
    • For iPhones purchased from another carrier, refer to the lock policies for AT&T, Sprint or T-Mobile.
  • Your eSIM activation has been processed and you've received the QR code via email:
    • If you're new to Verizon, refer to Join Verizon.
    • If you're an existing Verizon customer:
      • For a new line of service, contact Consumer Sales at (800) 225-5499 to activate your eSIM.
      • For an existing line, contact Customer Service at (800) 922-0204 to activate your eSIM.
  • Your device has a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.


  1. From the Home screen, navigate: Settings Settings > Cellular.
  2. Tap Add Cellular Plan.

  3. Scan the provided QR code using your iPhone's camera.
    Note The QR code is sent via email.

  4. Tap Add Cellular Plan.
    Note Allow up to 5 minutes for the device to activate and signal bars to show on the device.

  5. From the 'Cellular Plan Labels' screen, tap Primary.

  6. Select the desired label then tap Done (upper-left).

  7. Tap Secondary.
    Note This is the newly added plan.

  8. Select the desired label then tap Done (upper-left).

  9. From the 'Default Line' screen, select the desired line (e.g., Primary, Secondary, etc.) then tap Done.
