Apple® iPhone® - Dual SIM with an eSIM - Switch SMS / MMS Number

Caution Prior to sending a text message to a contact using your secondary mobile number, the existing thread must be deleted.

Note Notes:

  • The steps below apply to the iPhone XS / XS Max and newer models.
  • MMS/Group messages can only be sent from the mobile number set as the default cellular data number. For instructions, refer to change default cellular data number.
  • You can send SMS/MMS messages using either mobile number. To switch numbers before sending a message, follow the instructions below.

 

  1. From the Home screen, tap Messages Messages icon.
  2. Tap the Compose icon Compose icon (upper-right).
  3. Enter your contact's name.
  4. Tap the current mobile number (e.g., Primary).
    Note This option is only available when both the physical SIM card and eSIM are activated.

  5. Tap the mobile number you want to use (e.g., Use Primary, Use Secondary, etc.).
    Select cellular line
