If you need to transfer contacts and media from one device to another, follow these step-by-step instructions before activating the new device.

Caution To avoid potential issues, review the following:

  • Accounts (e.g., Gmail, email, etc.) should be set up after activating the device (see Related Topics).
  • To activate the device on prepaid service, refer to Set up Verizon Prepaid Service.
  • Wi-Fi Calling settings don't transfer after switching devices and/or performing a factory data reset. You need to enable Wi-Fi Calling manually if you want to use it.


  1. If powered off, press and hold the Power button until the RED logo appears then release.
  2. From the Welcome screen, select the appropriate language then tap START.
    Note Allow several seconds for activation to complete.
  3. If presented with a 'Phone Activation' screen, tap NEXT or ACTIVATE NOW (if available).
    Note If prompted, enter the account PIN then follow the onscreen prompts (see Account PIN FAQs for additional info).
    Note If activating a new phone, ensure the old phone is powered off and allow several minutes for the deactivation of the old phone to complete.
  4. From the 'Connect to Wi-Fi' screen, tap a network to connect, or tap SKIP.
    Note If skipping this step, tap CONTINUE to set up over the cellular network.
  5. If presented with a 'Copy apps & data' screen, tap Set up as new.
  6. From the 'Sign in' (Google) screen, tap Skip > Skip.
  7. From the Name screen, enter the first and last name then tap NEXT.
  8. From the 'Unlock with fingerprint' screen, tap SKIP.
  9. From the 'Protect your phone' screen, tap Not now > SKIP ANYWAY.
  10. From the 'Google services' screen, select any of the following to turn on Switch on or off Switch off:
    • Help apps find location
    • Improve location accuracy
    • Send usage and diagnostic data
  11. Tap ACCEPT (may require scrolling to the bottom).
    Note To review the Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy, tap the appropriate link then tap CLOSE to continue.
  12. From the 'Verizon Cloud' screen, tap SKIP > NOT NOW.
  13. From the 'Security and Privacy' screen, tap SKIP.
  14. From the 'Anything else?' screen, tap NO THANKS.
  15. From the 'Ready to go!' screen, tap GOT IT!.
