moto 5G - Manage Mobile / Wi-Fi Hotspot Settings


Note The 5G indicator only displays during an active 5G data session.

  1.  From a Home screen, tap the Arrow icon Arrow icon to display all apps.
  2. Navigate: Settings Settings icon > Network & Internet Network and Internet icon > Mobile hotspot & tethering Hotspot and Tethering icon > Mobile Hotspot.
  3. Tap Mobile hotspot to turn on On icon.
  4. From the 'Wi-Fi hotspot band' prompt (first time set-up), tap GO TO SETTINGS.

  5. Tap Advanced.
  6. From the 'Mobile hotspot' screen, tap AP Band.
  7. Tap the 5.0 GHZ Band and then tap APPLY.
    Note If device can't connect to the hotspot, try changing the band to 2.4 GHz.

Set Up Mobile Hotspot

  1. Tap Mobile Hotspot.
  2. From the 'Mobile Hotspot' screen, configure the following as needed
    • Hotspot name (SSID)
    • Hide my device
      Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
    • Security
      • None
      • WPA2 PSK
    • Password
      Note Password can be changed.
    • Select AP Band
      • 2.4 GHz Band
      • 5 GHz Band
    • Client (DHCP) start address




Manage Devices

  1. Tap Manage Devices.
    Note Restricts which devices are allowed to connect.
  2. To set allowed devices, tap Manage allowed devices.
    1. Tap Allow all devices to enable or disable.
      Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
    2. To add a device:
      1. Tap Add allowed device.
      2. Enter the MAC address and device name (optional) then tap OK.
      3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 as necessary. When finished, tap the Back icon Back icon (lower-left).
  3. Tap Device limit.
    Note Limits how many devices can be connected at the same time.
    1. Select an option (e.g., 2 Devices, 3 Devices, 10 Devices, etc.).
    2. Tap the Back icon.




Timeout Settings

  1. Tap Timeout settings.
    Note Sets how long before the hotspot turns off after no activity.
  2. Select an option:
    • 10 min
    • 15 min
    • 30 min
    • 60 min
    • Never turn off
  3. Tap the Back icon Back icon (lower-left).
