Bixby - Setup and Usage - Samsung (Android™ 9.x)

Note Notes:

  • Bixby requires an active Samsung ID.
  • If the Samsung ID credentials can't be remembered, they can be retrieved or reset.
  • Bixby Voice requires simplified view. If prompted, tap OK to continue using Bixby.
  • Completion of initial setup is required to disable the Bixby key or Bixby Voice.

Bixby Setup

  1. From the Home screen, swipe from the left to right or press the Bixby button.
  2. From the 'Bixby Welcome' screen, select a language (upper-right) then tap Sign in to Samsung account.

  3. From the 'Samsung Account' screen, enter the appropriate information then tap Sign In.

  4. From the 'Welcome to the new Bixby' screen, confirm the email address (bottom) is correct then tap the Arrow icon.

  5. To continue, review the Terms and Conditions then tap the Arrow icon.

  6. From the 'Teach me your voice' screen, review the info then tap the Arrow icon.

  7. From the 'Say the following' screen, speak 'Hi, Bixby' until your voice is successfully captured 5 times.

  8. From the 'Great! You can talk to me anytime' screen,  tap the Checkmark icon.

Bixby Voice

  1. Scroll down to locate the Bixby Voice card then tap the Bixby Voice icon Bixby Vision icon (upper-left). 
    Note Alternatively, press and hold the Bixby button at any time to speak commands.

  2. From the Bixby Voice card, tap a How-to guide to learn more about Bixby or tap the Bixby Voice icon Bixby Vision icon (bottom) then say one of the recommended commands (i.e., What's the weather?).
    Note To watch more How-to guides tap Next (upper-right).
    Note Once a How-to guide has been viewed it disappears from the Bixby Voice screen. Tap the Menu icon Menu Icon > Tutorials to re-watch any of the How-to guides.

Bixby Vision Setup

  1. From the Camera, tap Bixby Vision (upper-left).
    Note If prompted during initial setup, tap Add to create a Bixby Vision icon to your Home screen.
    Note Once added, the Bixby Vision icon can be used as an alternate method to open Bixby Vision.

  2. To continue, review the information for Bixby Vision, tap (check) the appropriate checkboxes then tap Next to continue.

  3. To continue, review the terms and conditions for Third Party Services, tap (check) the appropriate checkboxes then tap OK (lower-right).

  4. If prompted for permissions, tap Allow to continue setup.

Bixby Vision

  1. From the Camera, tap Bixby Vision (upper-left).
    Note Alternatively, tap the Bixby Vision icon from the Home or App screen if applicable.

  2. From Bixby Vision, center the viewfinder on the image.
  3. Tap the appropriate category (e.g., Image, Place, Shopping, QR Code, Text, etc.) then follow the on-screen prompts.

Bixby Settings

  1. From the Bixby screen, tap the Menu icon Bixby menu icon.
  2. Tap Cards.
    1. Select apps to show as cards on the Bixby Home screen (e.g., Calendar, Clock, Email, etc.).
    2. Tap the preferred app.
    3. Tap the switch on Switch on or off Switch off to display or remove cards from the Bixby screen.
      Note Depending on the app additional options may be available. Tap the appropriate on or off switch as preferred.
    4. Tap the Back Arrow icon Back arrow icon to return to the Bixby screen.
  3. Tap the Menu icon Bixby menu icon > Settings.
    1. Tap Customization Service to view a list of supported apps.
      Note Customization Service personalizes your content by analyzing your info and how you use your phone.
    2. To remove an app from Customization Service tap the switch to the right of the preferred app to turn off Switch off .
    3. Tap the Back Arrow icon Back arrow icon (upper-left).
    4. Tap the Customization Service switch to turn on or off.
    5. Tap the Use with Wi-Fi only switch to turn on or off.
    6. Tap Data Management.
    7. To select what information can be collected about you, tap the switch on Switch on or off Switch off for the following:
      • Call/message history (Phone)
      • Search data (Internet)
      • Web address (Internet)
      • Location (GPS)
    8. Tap Download personal data to view all the personal data Samsung has collected about you.
      Note Review the information then tap Download.
      Note If prompted, enter your Samsung Account user name and password.
    9. Tap Erase personal data to erase the personal data Samsung has collected about you.
      Note Review the information then tap Erase.
      Note If prompted, enter your Samsung Account user name and password.
    10. Tap Stop all customization to discontinue use on all your device.
      1. Tap Stop customization again.
      2. Tap Confirm.
  4. Tap the Menu icon Bixby menu icon > Notices.
    1. Tap to view any available notices from Samsung.
