Transfer Content with Quick Start - Apple® iOS

What you need:

  • Your old and new iPhone/iPad devices, both running iOS 11 or later
  • Bluetooth enabled on both devices
  • Wi-Fi enabled on both devices

 

Note Notes:

  • Keep the two devices close to each other while your info, settings and passwords are transferred.
  • This method occupies both devices, so make sure to set a time when either won't be needed for several minutes.

Place the two devices close together

During initial setup on the new device, 'Quick Start' appears on the screen.

Set up the transfer

When the 'Set Up New iPhone / iPad' prompt appears on the old iPhone, tap Continue.
Note Make sure the Apple ID presented is the one you want to use.

Transfer data wirelessly

On the new device, an animation screen appears. Hold the old device over the new device to center the animation in the view finder.

Enter the old iPhone's passcode

On the new device, enter the old device's passcode.

Set up a Wi-Fi Network

On the new device, tap the preferred Wi-Fi network, enter the Wi-Fi password then tap Join.

On the new device, tap Continue.

Set up Face ID or Touch ID

On the new device, tap 'Continue' or 'Set Up Later in Settings'.

Enter Apple ID password

On the new device, enter your Apple ID Password then tap Sign in.
Note If you have multiple devices, you may need to enter their passcodes.

On the new device, tap 'Continue' or 'Choose Other Backup or Don't Restore'.

On the new device, review the Terms and Conditions then tap Agree.

On the new device, tap 'Continue' or 'Customize Settings'.

Restore from iCloud

On the new device, a progress bar displays until the restore operation completes. Time to restore depends on amount of data being transferred.

Helpful Info

  • Keep your new device connected to Wi-Fi and plugged into the charger to allow content like photos, music and apps stored in iCloud to automatically download to the device.
  • If any content is missing on your new device, check to see if content needs to be moved from other cloud services. (e.g., Verizon Cloud, Google, etc.) and/or use the Content Transfer app available in the App Store. For more info on missing content, visit this Apple support page.
