Google Pixel 3a - Activate / Set Up Device

If you need to transfer contacts and media from one device to another, follow these step-by-step instructions before activating the new device.

Caution Notes:

 

  1. If powered off, press and hold the Power button (on the right edge) until the Google™ logo appears then release.
  2. Select the appropriate language option then tap START.

  3. From the 'Phone activation' screen, tap Continue.
    Note If prompted, enter the account PIN then follow the onscreen instructions (see Account PIN FAQs for additional info).
    Note If activating a new phone, ensure the old phone is powered off.

  4. From the 'Connect to Wi-Fi' screen, select a network then enter the password.
    Note If you choose 'Skip', you can add a Wi-Fi network after setup is complete.

  5. From the 'Copy apps & data' screen, select one of the following:
    • Next
    • Don't copy

  6. If presented, either connect the supplied cable from the old Android device to the new one or tap 'Can't use old phone?' and follow the instructions.
    Note If 'Other ways to copy data' is selected, follow the onscreen instructions to copy content from another Android device, an iPhone, or the cloud.
  7. From the 'Sign in' screen, enter a Google email address then tap Next.
    Note If you choose 'Skip', you can add your Google account after setup is complete

  8. From the 'Google Services' screen, select the desired options then tap Accept.

  9. From the 'Additional legal terms' screen, tap I accept.

  10. From the 'Set screen lock' screen, tap Next.
    Note If you choose 'Skip', you can set up a screen lock after setup is complete.

  11. From the 'Continue setup?' screen tap Continue.
    Note If you choose 'Leave & get reminder', you can finish setup at a later time after setup is complete.

  12. From the 'Access your Assistant...' screen tap I agree.
    Note If you choose 'Skip', you can setup voice match after setup is complete.

  13. From the 'Squeeze for your Assistant' screen tap Next.
    Note If you choose 'Do it later', you can setup Google Assistant after setup is complete.

  14. From the 'Always-on display' screen tap Turn on.
    Note If you choose 'No thanks', you can turn on after setup is complete.

  15. From the 'Anything else?' screen select an option or tap No thanks to finish setup.

  16. From the 'More tips & tricks' screen tap All set.

  17. Once the 'Adding finishing touches' screen displays, setup is complete.
