If you need to transfer contacts and media from from an older iPhone (prior to iOS 11) or from an Android or Windows device, follow these step-by-step instructions before activating the new device.

Caution Caution:

  • The steps below don't work for 3G iPads (iPad and iPad 2); for these models, follow these activation instructions.
  • Accounts (e.g., Gmail, email, etc.) can be set up after activating the device (see Related Topics).
  • To prevent issues with activating or establishing a data connection:
    • if there is a current device connected to the Verizon network on this mobile number, verify that the old device is powered off prior to activating the new device.
    • if completing on-device activation using Wi-Fi, an active network must be available. If a Wi-Fi network is using a firewall, activations may fail.
