Apple® iPhone® 4 - Add a Virtual Private Network

A virtual private network (VPN) encrypts your internet traffic and protects your online identity via a secured remote server and is most commonly used when remotely accessing company systems (e.g., company email, intranet sites, etc.).

  • VPN settings may not allow the device to connect to an unsecured Wi-Fi connection.
  • The device may not indicate that a Wi-Fi connection has been ended due to this restriction.
  • If available, the device resumes a 3G connection and data usage may be incurred.

  1. From the Home screen, navigate: Settings > General > VPN.
  2. If applicable, slide the VPN switch to the On (green) position.
  3. Tap Add VPN Configuration.
  4. Tap the VPN type (top):
Note Contact your VPN administrator for assistance with server information, credentials and additional settings.
    • L2TP
    • PPTP
    • IPSec
  5. Enter the appropriate information into the available fields (e.g., Description, Server, Password, etc.).
  6. Configure additional settings as needed (e.g., RSA SecurID, Encryption, Proxy, etc.).
  7. Tap Save (upper-right).
