Apple® iPad® - Lock / Unlock Screen Portrait Orientation Mode

This helps if you can't get the screen/display on your device to flip or rotate.

Turn Portrait Orientation Lock On
Turn Portrait Orientation Lock Off
Use Side Switch to Control Portrait Orientation Lock

Turn Portrait Orientation Lock On

Note If Portrait Orientation Lock is turned on, your screen won't rotate.

  1. Access the Control Center by touching the top-right corner of any screen then dragging downward.
  2. Tap the Portrait Orientation icon Portrain Orientation Lock to turn on.
    Note When the icon is highlighted in red, the Portrait Orientation Lock is turned on.
    Note If you don't see the Portrait Orientation icon, and your iPad has a Side Switch, view this info.

Note Portrait Orientation Lock is turned on when the Portrait Orientation Lock icon Portrain Orientation Lock is highlighted in red.

  1. Access the Control Center by touching the top-right corner of any screen then dragging downward.
  2. Tap the Portrait Orientation Lock icon Portrain Orientation Lock to turn off.

Use Side Switch to Control Portrait Orientation Lock

  • Allows you to control Portrait Orientation Lock with the Side Switch.
  • The steps below apply to the following models:
    • iPad Air
    • iPad Mini / iPad Mini 2 / iPad Mini 3
    • iPad (3rd and 4th generation)
  • To identify your iPad model, view this info.

  1. From a Home screen, tap Settings icon Portrain Orientation Lock.
  2. Tap General.
  3. From the 'USE SIDE SWITCH TO' section, tap Lock Rotation.
