Reload Device Software - BlackBerry® Link

Warning Performing this procedure disables all data services (web browsing, email, etc.) and removes all data (downloaded apps, email accounts, media files, and application data) from the handheld. Prior to wiping the handheld, ensure there is a recent backup of the data.

Note BlackBerry Link (formerly BlackBerry Desktop Software) is used to sync media and back up/restore device data between BlackBerry Playbook tablets or BlackBerry 10 smartphones and a computer. If not installed, refer to Download/Install - BlackBerry Link.

Reload Device Software (Windows)

Restore Device to Factory Settings (Windows)

Note An active Internet connection is required to download/reload device software.

  1. Launch BlackBerry Link.
    Note From the Windows desktop, click Start > All Programs > BlackBerry > BlackBerry Link.
  2. Using the provided USB cable, connect the BlackBerry 10 smartphone to the computer.
  3. Click the computer tab (located in the lower-left).
    Note The name of the tab will vary depending upon the name of the computer.
  4. Click Settings ( Settings icon gear icon located in the upper-right).
  5. From the 'Reload Device Software' section, click Reload.
  6. Review the disclaimer then click OK to confirm.
    Note The BlackBerry 10 smartphone will restart.
  7. From the 'Confirm device to be reloaded' screen, click Yes to confirm.
  8. From the 'An updated version of BlackBerry® Device Software is available' screen, click Get Update.
  9. Click Install Update to confirm.
    Caution The reload process may take up to 1 hour to complete. Do not disconnect the BlackBerry 10 smartphone from the computer until completed.
  10. From the 'Your software update is complete' screen, click Close.

Reload Device Software (Macintosh)

Note An active Internet connection is required to download/reload device software.

  1. Launch BlackBerry Link.
    Note From the Macintosh desktop, click Finder > Applications > BlackBerry Link.
  2. Using the provided USB cable, connect the BlackBerry 10 smartphone to the computer.
  3. Click the computer tab (located in the lower-left).
    Note The name of the tab will vary depending upon the name of the computer.
  4. Click Settings ( Settings icon gear icon located in the upper-right).
  5. From the 'Reload Device Software' section, click Reload.
    Note The BlackBerry 10 smartphone will restart.
  6. From the 'Confirm device to be reloaded' screen, click OK to confirm.
    Caution The reload process may take up to 1 hour to complete. Do not disconnect the BlackBerry 10 smartphone from the computer until completed.
  7. From the 'Repair Succeeded' screen, click Close Settings.
