Verizon Smart Family™ - Website - Add, Edit or Remove Parent / Child Roles

Here are instructions for assigning/editing Smart Family roles. For additional info on Smart Family, visit our Smart Family FAQs.

Note Notes:

  • Parent devices can monitor activity and contacts and manage limits for child lines.
  • To perform the steps below, you need to:
    • use a desktop or laptop computer with an up to date web browser (e.g., Chrome™, Edge, Safari®, etc.).
    • sign in using a My Verizon user ID or mobile number that has Account Owner or Manager access privileges.
    • ensure the child device is powered off prior to adding or removing blocks, restrictions, limits, etc.
  • These steps don't apply to prepaid accounts.

Add a Child Line

  1. From a web browser, sign in to My Verizon.
    Note If using a smartphone or tablet, refer to the Android® or Apple® iOS instructions.
  2. From the My Verizon home screen, navigate: Plan > My Plan & Services > Manage Verizon Smart Family.
  3. Click the Primary Parent line.
  4. From the left menu, click Settings to expand.
  5. Click Nicknames & roles.
  6. From the 'Name your devices' section, click the 'Role' dropdown menu next to the associated mobile number.
  7. Select Child.
  8. Edit the first and last name if desired.
  9. Click Save my changes (lower-right).

Edit or Remove a Role

  1. From a web browser, sign in to My Verizon.
    Note If using a smartphone or tablet, refer to the Android or Apple iOS instructions.
  2. From the My Verizon home screen, navigate: Plan > My Plan & Services > Manage Verizon Smart Family.
  3. Click the Primary Parent line.
  4. From the left menu, click Settings to expand.
  5. Click Nicknames & roles.
  6. From the Name your devices section, click the 'Role' dropdown menu next to the associated mobile number.
  7. Select the desired option:
    Note Only 2 devices can be set as parent and the Account Owner is the primary parent.
    Note If the device is currently set to a Child role, first change the role to 'Not assigned' and save then select the option below.
    Note To enable a device as a parent, the mobile number must be an Account Manager in My Verizon.
    • Parent
    • Child
    • Not assigned
  8. Edit the first and last name if desired.
  9. Click Save my changes (lower-right).
