Note Notes:

  • To share media files, an active Wi-Fi connection must be established. Refer to the following for assistance:
  • To play or copy media to / from other devices (e.g., computer, TV, etc.), they must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network and may need to be configured for sharing. Refer to the user manual or contact the equipment manufacturer for assistance.
  • Some apps (e.g., YouTube, Netflix®, etc.) support displaying the app contents on a remote display. Within the app, tap the Cast icon Cast icon then select the desired display from the list.

 

Here are a few ways to share your screen or media files with a TV or media server. A compatible display or additional accessories may be required. Check with your TV manufacturer for additional support.

View Media Files on a TV via an External HDMI Device

Caution Only Digital Rights Management (DRM) free / unprotected content can be viewed via this method. The following file formats are supported:

  • MPEG4
  • WMV
  • H.263
  • H.264

Note A compatible HDMI cable is required and must be purchased separately.

  1. Using the HDMI cable, connect the device to an external display device, e.g., HDTV, projector, etc.
  2. Configure the external display device as appropriate.
    Note This may include changing the Input Source to HDMI. Contact the equipment manufacturer for assistance.
  3. From a Home screen, tap the Apps icon Applications icon (at the bottom).
  4. From the All Apps tab, tap Settings.
  5. Tap Display.
  6. Tap HDMI Connection to enable.
    Note Enabled when a checkmark Check box icon is present.
  7. Tap the Home icon Home button icon (at the bottom).
  8. From a home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  9. From the All Apps tab, tap Gallery.
  10. Select an album.
  11. Select a picture / video to view.

Share Pictures, Videos or Music

Note Playback or viewing of the following aren't supported:

  • DRM protected content
  • Blockbuster or Netflix service
  • MS Powerpoint or Excel files can't be viewed directly with DLNA, however, screen shots of the PPT presentation or Excel graphs can be played back as a slideshow.

 

  1. From a Home screen, tap the Apps icon Apps menu icon (at the bottom).
  2. From the All Apps tab, tap Gallery.
  3. Select the preferred Album.
  4. Select the preferred picture or video.
  5. Tap Play On Play On icon (at the top).
  6. From the 'Play on media device' screen, select the appropriate device.

Media Server Settings (DLNA)

Note Notes:

  • Configure these settings to share files with a DLNA-enabled device (e.g., TV, game console, etc.). To determine whether your device supports the DLNA standard, see this product database.
  • While this device can share files with a media server, the files can't be directly played from the phone. The media server has to search for the phone while content sharing is turned on. See the media server's support documentation for further assistance.

 

  1. From a Home screen, tap Apps Apps menu icon (at the bottom).
  2. From the All Apps tab, tap Settings.
  3. Tap More.
  4. Tap Media share settings.
  5. Tap Media Share to enable or disable.
    Note Enabled when an checkmark Check box icon is present.
  6. If prompted with a Grant access screen, tap Accept if the device is trusted otherwise select Decline.
  7. Tap My shared media.
  8. Select any of the following to enable or disable then tap OK.
    Note Enabled when an checkmark is present.
    • Music
    • Picture
    • Video
  9. Tap Upload to phone to enable or disable.
    Note Allows others to upload media files to the device.
    Note Enabled when an checkmark is present.
  10. Tap Support Xbox to enable or disable.
    Note Allows others to upload media files to the device.
    Note Enabled when an checkmark is present.
  11. Tap Security level then select any of the following:
    • Accept all devices
    • Accept only trusted devices
    • Always ask
  12. Tap Trusted devices to view devices that are allowed to connect to the phone.
  13. Tap Banned devices to view devices that aren't allowed to connect to the phone.
