Activate / Set Up Device - Moto X™

If you are upgrading your existing Verizon device, follow these steps to activate before proceeding with the instructions below.

Caution To avoid potential issues, review the following:

  • Accounts (e.g., Gmail, email, etc.) should be set up after activating the device (see Related Topics).
  • If performing first time (out-of-the-box) setup, ensure the SIM card is inserted.
  • To activate the device on prepaid service, refer to Set up Verizon Prepaid Service.

  1. If powered off, press and hold the Power button (located on the right edge) until the Google logo appears then release.
  2. Select the appropriate language option then tap the Next icon (arrow inside yellow circle located at the bottom).
    Note Allow several seconds for activation to complete.
  3. From the "Wi-Fi" screen tap SKIP then tap SKIP ANYWAY.
    Note Once setup is complete, a Wi-Fi network can be added.
  4. If presented, from the "Verify your account" screen, sign in with a Google Account that was previously synced on the device.
  5. From the "Set up payment info" screen, select No Thanks then tap CONTINUE.
  6. From the "Add your account" screen, tap SKIP > SKIP ANYWAY.
    Note Once setup is complete, refer to Add an Existing Google Account or Create a New Google Account.
  7. Tap First and enter your first name then tap next.
  8. Enter your last name, tap the checkmark in the lower-right corner then tap next.
  9. From the "Protect your phone" screen, tap SKIP > SKIP ANYWAY.
    Note Once setup is complete, refer to Set Up Screen Lock.
  10. Enable any of the following then tap NEXT:
    Note Enabled when a checkmark is present
    • Use Google's location service
    • Help improve location services
    • Help improve your Android experience
  11. Tap FINISH.
