Activate / Set Up Device - Samsung Galaxy Note® 3

If you are upgrading your existing Verizon device, follow these steps to activate before proceeding with the instructions below.

Caution To avoid potential issues, review the following:

  • Accounts (e.g., Gmail, email, etc.) should be set up after activating the device (see Related Topics).
  • If performing first time (out-of-the-box) setup, ensure the SIM card is inserted.
  • To activate the device on prepaid service, refer to Set up Verizon Prepaid Service.


  1. If powered off, press and hold the Power button (located on the right edge of the device) until the Samsung logo appears then release.
  2. Tap the appropriate Language then select Next (located in the lower-right).
    Note Allow several seconds for activation to complete.
  3. From the 'Your Verizon phone is now active' screen, tap Next.
  4. From the Restore your contacts screen, select Next.
    Note To disable contact syncing, ensure Sync contacts is unchecked.
  5. From the Email setup screen, tap Skip.
  6. From the Tap & Go screen, tap Skip.
    Note To transfer account data after initial setup, from a Home screen navigate: Apps > Settings > Wireless & networks > More and turn NFC on.
  7. On the Add your account screen, tap Skip.
  8. If presented with Skip account setup warning screen, tap Skip.
  9. From the Name screen, enter First and Last names then tap the Next icon Next icon (located in the lower right).
  10. Review the Google services screen then tap Next.
  11. From the Setup Wizard summary screen, tap Done (located in the lower-right).
  12. From the Samsung account screen, tap Skip.
    Note To add a Samsung account after initial setup, from a Home screen navigate: Apps > Settings > Add account > Samsung account.
  13. On the Protect your Phone screen, tap No to continue to skip signing in to your Samsung account.
  14. From the Protect your phone screen, tap OK.
    Note To turn on Protect your phone at a later time, navigate: Apps > Settings > Security > Reactivation lock.
