About data usage alerts

Plan changes made during your bill cycle can affect data usage reporting and alerts. In certain circumstances, your data usage alerts won't reset until the next bill cycle starts.

If you have Start Unlimited, Play More Unlimited, Do More Unlimited or Get More Unlimited

Start Unlimited: In times of congestion your data may be temporarily slower than other traffic.

Keep in mind that your Mobile hotspot data usage counts toward your total high speed data usage with these plans:

Play More Unlimited:

  • After 25 GB of usage, in times of congestion your data may be temporarily slower than other traffic.
  • Mobile hotspot usage is reduced to connection speeds up to 600 Kbps after 15 GB of usage.

Do More Unlimited:

  • After 50 GB of usage, in times of congestion, your data may be temporarily slower than other traffic.
  • Mobile hotspot usage is reduced to connection speeds up to 600 Kbps after 15 GB of usage.

Get More Unlimited:

  • After 75 GB of usage, in times of congestion, your data may be temporarily slower than other traffic.
  • Mobile hotspot usage is reduced to connection speeds up to 600 Kbps after 30 GB of usage.

If you have Above Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited or the Verizon Plan Unlimited

Keep in mind that your Mobile hotspot data usage counts toward your total high speed data usage with these plans.

Above Unlimited:

  • Provides 20 GB of 4G LTE for Mobile Hotspot data each bill cycle and then is reduced to up to 600 Kbps speeds for the rest of the bill cycle.
  • Non-Mobile-Hotspot data continues to be unlimited at 4G LTE speeds until 75 GB.

Beyond Unlimited and the new Verizon Plan Unlimited:

  • Provide 15 GB of 4G LTE for Mobile Hotspot data each bill cycle and is then reduced to up to 600 Kbps speeds for the rest of the bill cycle.
  • Non-Mobile-Hotspot data continues to be unlimited at 4G LTE speeds until 22 GB.

Most of the time you'll continue to enjoy the same great network experience once your line exceeds 75 GB for Above Unlimited and 22 GB for Beyond Unlimited and the new Verizon Plan Unlimited during your bill cycle.

However, if you exceed those limits on a particular line during your current bill cycle and are on a cell site that is congested at that moment, your download may be temporarily queued behind other Verizon customers. This may result in slower download speeds relative to another Verizon customer's experience on the same cell site at that moment.

If you have Go Unlimited

Go Unlimited:

  • Provides 4G LTE data speeds unless there is congestion, which can occur at any time. 4G LTE speeds resume when the congestion clears.
  • Mobile Hotspot on Go Unlimited is available at speeds up to 600 Kbps.

Data Usage and Safety Mode

Safety Mode is available with the new Verizon Plan and Just Kids. Safety Mode lets you stay connected at reduced speeds (128 Kbps) until you buy more 4G LTE data or until your next billing cycle.

  • On the new Verizon Plan (e.g., S, M, L):
    • Safety Mode is an optional feature available at no charge on all sizes.
    • Is an account level feature that protects all lines on the account.
  • On the Just Kids plan:
    • Safety Mode is automatically included and cannot be removed.
    • Just Kids lines experience Safety Mode speeds automatically once the 5 GB allowance has been exhausted.

When Safety Mode is active you can stay connected at reduced speeds (128 Kbps) through the end of your bill cycle. To get back to full 4G LTE speed, you can switch to a plan size with more data, buy a Data Boost or wait until the next bill cycle.

If you're outside the US and have an international plan

Data speed slows down after 0.5 GB. Roaming data speeds are reduced to 2G speeds (128 Kbps) after exceeding 500 MB of daily data usage within a 24-hour period.

The 2G speed limit lasts for the rest of the 24-hour period and should revert to normal data speed after that time.

If you have Smart Family

If you have Smart Family and someone on your account can't use data:

  • Check to see if a data limit is set.
  • Make any needed adjustments to the data limit to let the user access data. After changes are made on a specific line, turn the phone off and back on so the change takes effect.
