General Information

  1. What's the difference between a ringtone and a Ringback Tone?

    Ringtones are downloaded to and played by your phone using the Verizon Tones app. You'll hear your chosen ringtone when someone calls you. Learn how to access Verizon Tones at our How to Use Guide: Verizon Tones page.

    Note: Buy ringtones through the Verizon Tones app on your Android® or iOS device.

    Ringback Tones aren't downloaded to your phone. Instead, the Ringback Tone is played by our network to your callers before you answer the call or the caller is diverted to voicemail. The person calling you hears the Ringback Tone.

    Note: Get Ringback Tones at the Media Store.

  2. What's a Ringback Tone?

    Ringback Tones replace the standard ringing sound for your family and friends to hear when they call you. Choose a song or clip for your callers to hear before you pick up a call or they're sent to voicemail.

  3. What kinds of ringtones and Ringback Tones are available?

    Over 90,000 ringtones and Ringback Tones are available in a wide variety of genres. If you can't find a title by genre, try searching by artist name or song title. Playlists are also available to purchase a collection of Ringback Tones at a discounted cost.

  4. How much do ringtones and Ringback Tones cost?

    Ringtones are $2.99 each. Ringback Tones are $1.99 each.

    Note: Ringtones can't be shared with other phones on your account. For example, if two people on the same account want the same ringtone, each person will have to purchase it.

  5. How much do Ringback Tones cost?

    Ringback Tones are $1.99 each. Plus there's a charge of $0.99/month for each phone on your account that's subscribed to the service.

    Notes:

    • Purchasing a Ringback Tone is a license to use it for a year.
    • Ringback Tones can't be shared with other phones on your account. For example, if two people on the same account want the same Ringback Tone, each person will have to purchase it.
  6. What is a Ringback Tones Playlist?

    A Ringback Tones Playlist includes several different Ringback Tones that rotate each time you receive a call. Playlists improve the calling experience by adding variety. There's no additional charge for using Playlist. You can create up to 5 Playlists.

  7. How many ringtones can I purchase?

    You can purchase an unlimited amount of ringtones through the Verizon Tones app on your device.

    Note: Ringtones and Ringback Tones can't be shared with other phones on your account. For example, if two people on the same account want the same ringtone, each person will have to purchase it.

  8. How many Ringback Tones can I purchase?

    You can purchase up to 100 Ringback Tones and Playlists. To purchase more than 100 Ringback Tones, first delete one or more Ringback Tones already on your profile.

    Note: Ringtones and Ringback Tones can't be shared with other phones on your account. For example, if two people on the same account want the same ringtone, each person will have to purchase it.

  9. If I preview Ringback Tones, does it use my data?

    Yes, previewing Ringback Tones uses data when you're connected to the Verizon Wireless network. You can preview Ringback Tones through the Verizon Tones app on your smartphone or basic phone and from the Media Store on a computer.

  10. How can Mac® users preview ringtones and Ringback Tones?

    Mac users will need to download Windows Media® Player for Mac. If you use a Macintosh operating system, please visit Microsoft's website for instructions on where and how to download Windows Media Player for the Mac.

  11. How do I purchase a Ringback Tone?

    You can purchase Ringback Tones from the Verizon Tones app on your device or the Ringback Tones Media Store on a computer.

    Note: To purchase Ringback Tones, you'll need to add the Ringback Tones feature to your account. Learn how to add the Ringback Tones feature to your account.

  12. Can I purchase ringtones or Ringback Tones for another number on my account?

    No, you aren't able to buy ringtones or Ringback Tones for someone else on your account. To purchase ringtones or Ringback Tones for another number, the person who uses that number must sign in to My Verizon with their mobile number and password or purchase content using the Verizon Tones app on their own device.

  13. How do I pay for a Ringback Tone?

    Once you've purchased a specific Ringback Tone, the charge will appear on your Verizon Wireless bill.

    Note: You don't have to sign up for Ringback Tones to purchase ringtones.

  14. Are Ringback Tones downloaded to my device?

    No, both your Ringback Tones and settings are part of a service that's delivered and stored by our network.

  15. Are ringtones purchased from the Verizon Tones app downloaded to my device?

    Yes, ringtones purchased from the Verizon Tones app are downloaded to the device at the time of purchase.

Using Ringtones and Ringback Tones

  1. How do I manage my ringtones or Ringback Tones?

    Ringtones are managed through your phone's settings. We offer step-by-step visual instructions for changing the ringtone on many of our smartphones. Visit our Simulator Index page and select your device for instructions. If you'd like to purchase a ringtone, you can do so from the Verizon Tones app on your smartphone or basic phone.

    Ringback Tones are managed and purchased from the Media Store or the Verizon Tones app on your smartphone or basic phone.

  2. How long can I keep a Ringback Tone?

    Ringback Tones and Playlists expire after 12 months.

  3. How often can I change my ringtone or Ringback Tone?

    You can change your ringtone, Ringback Tone or Playlist as often as you'd like.

  4. Can I set a unique ringtone or Ringback Tone for a specific contact?

    Ringtones - Yes, you can set a unique ringtone for a specific contact through your phone's Contacts app. We offer step-by-step visual instructions for assigning a ringtone to a contact on many of our smartphones. Visit our Simulator Index page and select your device for instructions.

    Ringback Tones - Yes, you can set a unique Ringback Tone or Playlist for a specific contact using the Media Store or the Verizon Tones app on your phone.

  5. Can I designate unique Ringback Tones for a group of callers?

    Ringtones - We don't offer this service for ringtones. You may be able to do this through your phone's Contacts app or another app. You can set a unique ringtone for a specific contact using the Contacts app on your phone.

    Ringback Tones - Yes, you can set a unique Ringback Tone and Playlist for a group using the Media Store. This option isn't available on the Verizon Tones app.

  6. Can I designate unique ringtones or Ringback Tones for a certain day of the week?

    Ringtones - We don't offer this service for ringtones. You may be able to do this through your phone's settings or an app.

    Ringback Tones - Yes, you can set Ringback Tones and Playlists based on the day of the week but only using the Media Store, not the Verizon Tones app.

  7. Can I designate unique ringtones or Ringback Tones for a certain time of the day?

    Ringtones - We don't offer this service for ringtones. You may be able to do this through your phone's settings or an app.

    Ringback Tones - Yes, you can set Ringback Tones and Playlists based on the time of day but only using the Media Store, not the Verizon Tones app.

  8. Can I specify that unique callers hear the standard ringing sound instead of my Ringback Tone?

    Yes, if you want a caller to receive the standard "ring ring" sound when they call, you may specify the Standard Ringing Tone to any of your Ringback Tone settings, like a certain caller, group, day of the week or time of day.

  9. What is the priority order for the following Ringback Tone profile settings: Caller ID, Group ID, Time of Day, and Default Ringtone?

    Ringback Tone playback settings have a priority order:

    1. Caller ID is the highest priority
    2. Group ID
    3. Time of Day
    4. Day of Week
    5. Default is the lowest priority
  10. Why do some of my Ringback Tones appear in red in "My Ringback Tones"?

    A Ringback Tone will appear in red under "My Ringback Tones" 14 days prior to its expiration date. The exact expiration date is also displayed.

  11. How can I extend my Ringback Tone that's about to expire?

    To extend a Ringback Tone that's about to expire:

    1. Open the Verizon Tones app on your phone.
    2. Tap Manage Ringback Tones.
    3. Tap My Ringback Tones.
    4. Select the Ringback Tone that's about to expire.
    5. Tap Renew to extend the expiration date.

    The cost of the renewal will be displayed on the screen.

    You've successfully extended the expiration of your Ringback Tone.

    Note: Ringback Tone content can be extended within 14 days of the expiration date. Renewal extends the license an additional 12 months.

  12. What is a Ringback Tone Caller Greeting?

    The Caller Greeting is a short message callers hear before the Ringback Tone is played. It introduces the Ringback Tones to your callers in case they're unfamiliar with the service. You may turn the Caller Greeting on or off at any time through the Verizon Tones app or the Media Store. Refer to our How to Use Guide: Verizon Tonee to learn how to do this.

  13. If I delete a ringtone or Ringback Tone, can I get it again?

    Yes, you can get a ringtone, Ringback Tone or Playlist if it's deleted or expires. However, you'll have to re-purchase it.

    Note: Ringback Tones and Playlists expire after 12 months. Ringtones don't expire.

  14. What are ringtone and Ringback Tone recalls?

    On rare occasions, we'll need to remove and recall content that's been previously purchased and distributed for use. When a ringtone or Ringback Tone is recalled, that tone will be removed from your account and any settings assigned to it will be replaced with the default ringtone or Ringback Tone. A credit for the full price of the recalled ringtone or Ringback Tone will be applied to your account 1-2 bill cycles from the date of recall.

  15. How do I cancel the Ringback Tone feature on my account or prevent another mobile number on my account from using Ringback Tones?

    If you're the Account Owner or an Account Manager for your account, you can cancel the Ringback Tones feature. Learn more about account access roles.

    To cancel Ringback Tones:

    1. Go to the Products & Apps page in My Verizon.

    2. Click the Manage Your Products tab.

    3. If you have multiple lines on the account, select the mobile number you want to remove Ringback Tones from.

    4. Scroll to the Ringback Tones feature and click Remove from Account.

    5. Review the changes and bill impacts on the confirmation pop-up, and then click Remove Product to confirm the transaction.

      Note: You can only remove a product from one line at a time. To remove the same product from another line, select that line and repeat steps d and e.

    You've successfully removed the Ringback Tones feature.

  16. How do I prevent a mobile number on my account from purchasing ringtones or Ringback Tones?

    If you're the Account Owner or an Account Manager for your account, you can block purchases from the Blocks page in My Verizon at no charge. Visit our Blocks FAQs for step-by-step instructions.

    If you subscribe to Verizon Smart Family™ (formerly Verizon FamilyBase®) or Usage Controls and are the Account Owner or Account Manager on your account, you can limit the amount of money spent on purchases.   17. Why is my Ringback Tone not playing when someone calls my mobile phone?

    When your Ringback Tone isn't playing, it's generally because no song has been assigned as your default Ringback Tone after signing up for the service. You can also assign Ringback Tones by day of week, time of day or for individual contacts.
