3. Understand and pay your bill

Your First Bill

When you activate a new line of service on a new or existing account, your first bill for that line will be for a partial month or portion of the monthly access charge. This portion is calculated based on the number of days between the date you began service and the last day of your bill cycle.

Even though you're only paying for a partial month, you'll still be given the full minute, text and data monthly allowances of your plan as an added benefit.

Since you're billed in advance, you'll also be charged for the next full month, which may cause your first bill to be higher than you expected. The following month's bill should be closer to what you expected.

Auto Pay

Sign up for Auto Pay and never worry about making a late payment. On eligible plans you can receive a $5 discount on your monthly bill when you’re signed up for Auto Pay (using a debit card or bank account) and paper-free billing.

Learn more about the Auto Pay and paper-free billing discount.

  • Online in My Verizon
    • Go to the Set up auto pay page.
    • Choose a payment option, schedule your payment date and tap Continue.
    • Review the Payment Authorization Terms & Conditions, and tap Confirm auto pay.
  • In the My Verizon app
    • Open the My Verizon app and tap the 3-line navigation menu in the top, left of your screen.
    • Tap Bill.
    • Tap Setup Autopay and follow the onscreen instructions.

7. Understand data usage

Your phone uses data when you do things, such as browse the web, stream music, play videos and send emails on the go. Different apps and activities will use varying amounts of data.

If you have an unlimited data plan, you don't have to worry about monitoring your data usage and keeping it within a monthly limit.

Otherwise, you can monitor your data usage on the My Usage page and set usage alerts online in My Verizon, and on your Samsung Galaxy S9 / S9+ with the My Verizon app.

To help conserve your data usage:

  • Connect to Wi-Fi for data heavy activities, such as streaming music or video.

8. Set up HD Voice

HD Voice provides natural-sounding audio and video calling that's as simple as making a call. You can use your 4G LTE data connection while on a phone call and make a conference call with up to six people.

If your account is eligible for HD Voice, it was automatically activated when you purchased your Samsung Galaxy S9 / S9+. You just need to turn it on. Learn how to turn on voice and video for HD Voice.

If you have a compatible device, you can turn it on in your phone's Settings menu or from the Products & Apps page in My Verizon and the My Verizon app for Android™.

9. Pair with a Bluetooth® accessory

Bluetooth is a wireless networking technology that enables you to connect your phone to other wireless devices, such as headsets, speakers, headphones, fitness bands and even other phones.

To pair with a Bluetooth device:

  1. In Settings, turn your phone's Bluetooth on to scan for devices.
  2. Make sure the other Bluetooth device is in Discover mode.
  3. Select the appropriate Bluetooth accessory.
  4. Enter your PIN, if requested.

Note: Common manufacturer-set PINs are 0000 and 1234.
