How to transfer line ownership in a few easy steps.

There are lots of reasons why you may want to change who owns a Verizon Wireless number.

Luckily, it's easy to transfer or take ownership of a line in a few easy steps. Changing billing responsibility from one Verizon customer to another one has two parts.

First, the current account owner starts the process. Then, the new account owner completes the transfer by accepting the billing responsibility.

Use My Verizon on your computer or mobile device to be guided through the whole process.

To transfer ownership of a line through VZW.com, log into My Verizon. From the "Account" drop down menu, under My Devices, select Transfer your service.

This will take you to the Transfer Your Service overview page, click Start the transfer to initiate the process of transferring ownership of your wireless number.

You can also complete the process on-the-go with the My Verizon App. Select the Account icon and sign in if you haven't already.

Scroll down to the line you would like to transfer, tap Manage device.

Next, scroll down to the Preferences section, select Transfer your service. The Transferring Service overview will outline the next steps, take a moment to review the process.

Tap Start the transfer to initiate the process of transferring ownership of your wireless number.

Before you begin, here's everything current account owners will need to make the transfer process as easy as possible.

Have the correct spelling of the first name, last name and email address of the person taking ownership of your line or lines.

Also, your wireless number needs to have been active for at least 30 days. You're responsible for charges on your account until the transfer is complete, so make sure you and the person taking ownership have current balances.

You can transfer any device payment agreements tied to the wireless number too.

Once your transfer authorization is done, the person taking ownership has 15 days to finish their part of the process. We'll send them an email to keep things moving along.

For anyone taking ownership of a line, you'll get the email and start your process. Open the email, click the link to Complete the Transfer Request and follow the directions.

One thing to note is that you'll need to be at least 18 years old and undergo a credit evaluation to take ownership of a line.

Register for My Verizon if you haven't already, then sign in online or on the My Verizon app to complete the transfer request and manage your account.

It's good to know that a security deposit or payoff of device payment agreements may be needed.

From there, you'll choose a plan and features from our current offerings.

Then you'll agree to the Verizon Wireless Customer Agreement Terms and Conditions and accept billing responsibility, which could include device payment agreements.

And just like that, ownership of the wireless number is transferred.
