Windows Phone 8.1 comes with Cortana, a virtual personal assistant. With Cortana you can easily perform searches, set reminders, make calls and more, simply by speaking your commands. Cortana can answer your questions on a variety of things like news, traffic and weather by using Bing® search.

With Windows Phone 8.1 you get Cortana®, a digital personal assistant to help you find the things you want and to get stuff done. Using the Search button and a simple voice command, Cortana can make calls, send texts, set reminders and more. Cortana, as well as several other enhancements in Windows Phone 8.1, gives your device a more personal, easy to use feel.

To check your current Windows Phone OS version:
- Tap the Settings tile.
- Tap about.
- Tap more info for OS information.
Get quick access to your notifications and important settings using Action Center. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open Action Center: you’ll see quick actions at the top of your screen with all of your notifications below.
Windows Phone 8.1 gives you more ways to personalize your device. Set a photo as your tile background and the tiles will show up over the photo in a puzzle-like display. Create folders to combine tiles on your Start screen. Also, you can set specific sounds and notifications for different apps.
Experience more features when listening to podcasts and streaming music and videos. Look for these new apps in your App list:

Capturing special moments is now easier with a redesigned Camera app. You now have quick access to customizable settings in the camera’s viewfinder via a row of circles. Burst mode lets you capture a series of shots in quick succession.
