Verizon Tones: Ringtones and Ringback Tones FAQs
  1. What's the difference between a ringtone and a Ringback Tone?

Ringtones are downloaded to and played by your phone. You’ll hear a ringtone when someone calls you, provided your phone isn’t set to vibrate or silent.

Ringback Tones aren’t downloaded to your phone. Instead, the Ringback Tone is played by our network to your callers before you answer the call or the caller is diverted to Voice Mail. The person calling you hears the Ringback Tone.
