International Calling

Back to previous page
Make calls from the US to many other countries using your mobile phone. If you only call from the US to other countries occasionally, you can pay per minute. If you make international calls frequently, you should consider our International Long Distance Value Plan.

Select a country on our International Dialing and Messaging by Country page to view the calling and messaging rate options for our International Long Distance Value Plan and standard international rates.

Prepaid:
You can also make calls from the US to many countries using your mobile phone.

Making international calls from the US to certain countries may be restricted due to a variety of reasons. However, you can always place an international call from your mobile phone using a calling card.

Traveling abroad? Refer to our Global Services page and our Trip Planner.

Note: Some calling plans aren’t eligible for International Dialing.

How to Get It

To add one of our International Dialing features to your plan:

  1. Go to the Change Features for International Long Distance page in My Verizon.
  2. Click Add next to the feature you want to add.
  3. Click Next at the bottom of the page.
  4. Select a date for the new feature to take effect.
  5. Review the changes and click Next.
  6. Click Submit.

Even if you don't add an International Dialing feature to your calling plan, you’ll still be able to call countries that support the North American 10-digit dialing pattern. Such calls will be subject to our standard international long distance rates.

How to Use It

Making an international call is similar to making domestic long distance calls. An international phone number is generally made up of a country code, a city number and the local exchange number.

For countries that support the North American 10-digit dialing pattern, you’ll dial the number as you would to a domestic long distance number. For all other countries, follow the instructions below.

Visit our International Long Distance and Messaging by Country page and select the country you want to call to view dialing instructions and rates for it.

To Place a Call from the US to Another Country

  1. Enter 011.
  2. Enter the country code.
  3. Enter the phone number you wish to reach.
  4. Tap the Call button.

For example, to call a number in France:

  1. Enter 011.
  2. Enter the country code 33.
  3. Enter the phone number you wish to call.
  4. Tap the Call button.
