Overview

Verizon FamilyBase is a service that you can use to monitor the activity of each device on your account, set usage limits for each device and help your children understand how to use their devices responsibly and safely. The insights this service provides are especially helpful for parents and anyone who has multiple family members on the same account. You can also use it to help avoid unexpected overage charges.

Getting Started

Signing Up for Verizon FamilyBase

You can sign up for FamilyBase from the FamilyBase website or in My Verizon.

  • To sign up from the FamilyBase website:
  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



  2. Follow the onscreen instructions to receive your 1-month free trial.

You've successfully signed up for Verizon FamilyBase from the FamilyBase website.

  • To sign up in My Verizon:
  1. Go to the Products & Apps page.

  2. Locate the FamilyBase app and click Get it Now.

  3. Follow the steps to follow the onscreen instructions to add a FamilyBase subscription to your account.


You've successfully signed up for Verizon FamilyBase in My Verizon.
 

Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase

There are two ways you can sign in to Verizon FamilyBase:

From the website

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



  2. Enter your User ID and Password for My Verizon.



You've successfully signed in to Verizon FamilyBase.

From your mobile device

The steps for signing in vary by device:

  • Android™
  1. Search for "Verizon FamilyBase" in the Google Play store on your device and follow the onscreen instructions to install it.

    Note: If you don't find the app in the Google Play store, your device may not be compatible and you should sign in from the website.

  2. Open the Verizon FamilyBase app and tap Sign In.



  3. Enter your User ID and Password for My Verizon.



You've successfully signed in to Verizon FamilyBase.

  • iPhone
  1. Search for "Verizon FamilyBase" in the Apple® App StoreSM on your device and follow the onscreen instructions to install it.

  2. Enter your User ID and Password for My Verizon and tap Sign In.



You've successfully signed in to Verizon FamilyBase.

Note: If you haven't previously subscribed to Verizon FamilyBase you'll be prompted to subscribe when you sign in. If you subscribe using the iPhone app you'll be billed through your iTunes account once your 1-month trial has expired. Every 30 days you'll be prompted to renew your subscription.

To subscribe, tap Get Started and follow the onscreen instructions.


  • Basic Phones -- When you sign up, you'll receive a text message telling you the best way to sign in from your phone. Follow the instructions listed in that text message.

 

Setting Up Controls

There are two ways you can set up controls for Verizon FamilyBase:

From your computer

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Click Controls.



  3. Select the type of control you'd like to set up or edit. 
  • Usage Limits
  • Time Restrictions
  • Trusted Contacts
  • Blocked Contacts
  • Purchase Limits
  • On Demand Lock (if available)



  1. Set the desired controls for one or multiple lines.



  2. Click Save Changes.



You've successfully set up Controls.

From the My Verizon Mobile app

Note: Controls for Trusted Contacts and Time Restrictions can't be set or changed from My Verizon Mobile. However, they can be changed from your computer using My Verizon.

  1. In the FamilyBase app menu, tap Controls.



    Note: Selecting the Controls tab within FamilyBase redirects you to My Verizon Mobile, where you can manage controls. Once signed into My Verizon Mobile, you have access to manage and set all of the existing controls.

  2. Scroll down and tap Manage Safeguards.



  3. Tap FamilyBase.



  4. Swipe left or right to select the type of control you'd like to set up or edit. The selected control will appear at the top of the screen.



  5. Tap the AVAILABLE tab to view and set the available options for each control.

  6. Tap Review Changes.

  7. If you're satisfied with the changes, tap Submit Change(s).


You've successfully set up Controls.

Viewing Your Family's Usage Information


Viewing All Call and Text Activity

On your computer

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Select your family member's device from the list on the left side of the screen.



  3. Click All Activity.



A history of that phone's calling and texting activity will appear.



On your mobile device

The steps for viewing activity vary by device:

  • Android
  1. Open the FamilyBase app and sign in to your account.


  2. Tap the Navigation Menu icon.


  3. Tap Activity below the phone for which you want to view the activity.


  4. A list of that phone's calling and texting activity will appear. Tap TEXTS or CALLS to view the detailed activity for each.



  • iPhone
  1. Open the FamilyBase app and sign in to your account.
  2. Tap Menu.



  3. Tap Activity below the phone for which you want to view the activity.



A list of that phone's calling and texting activity will appear. Tap Texts, Calls or Apps to view the detailed activity for each.



Note: With the iPhone app, the parent device can view up to 7 days of activity. However, through the web browser, you can only view up to 1 day of activity.

Viewing How Much Your Child Texts

To view your child's texting activity:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Select your child's device from the list on the left side of the screen.



  3. Click texts in the Activity Summary.



Your child's texting activity will appear. Look at the Texting Details summary in the lower-left of the screen to see how many texts your child sent and received in the past week.



Viewing How Much Time Your Child Spends on Calls

To see how many minutes your child uses on calls:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Select your child's device from the list on the left side of the screen.



  3. Click minutes in the Activity Summary.


Your child's calling activity will appear. Look at the All Hours box in the lower-left side of the screen to see how many minutes your child spent on the phone during the past week.



Viewing Calls and Texts with a Specific Contact

To see how often your child calls or texts a specific contact:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Select your child's device from the list on the left side of the screen.



  3. Click Contacts near the top of the screen.



  4. You'll see a list of all the contacts in that phone's address book. Select the name of the contact you want to view history for.


The Contacts Details page for that contact will open. You'll see the number of times your child called and texted that contact in the past 7 days.



Viewing Recently Added Contacts

The FamilyBase Companion app must be installed on your child's compatible Android device to see information about the contacts on it. Once the Companion app is on your child's device, use the steps below to view a list of your child's contacts:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Select your child's device from the list on the left side of the screen.



  3. Click Contacts.


You'll see a list of all the contacts in that phone's address book. You can view recently added contacts or the contacts you've added to your Watchlist by selecting the appropriate filter at the top of the list.


Viewing When Your Child Texts

To see when your child texts:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Select your child's device from the list on the left side of the screen.



  3. Click texts in the Activity Summary section.


Your child's texting activity will appear. The School Hours box and Late Hours box at the bottom of the screen will show you the number of texts your child has sent during those times in the past week.



Viewing the Apps Installed on Your Child's Device

The FamilyBase Companion app must be installed on your child's compatible Android device to see information about the apps installed on it. Once the Companion app is on your child's device, use the steps below to view a list of your child's apps:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Select your child's device from the list on the left side of the screen.



  3. Click apps (if available) in the Activity Summary section.


A list of the apps installed on your child's device will appear.

Managing Your Verizon FamilyBase Account

Managing Nicknames

To change the nickname of your child's phone:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



  2. Click Profiles.



  3. Click Edit Nickname under the mobile number you want to update.



  4. Enter a nickname.



  5. Click Submit Changes.


You've successfully changed the nickname of your child's phone.

Setting School Hours and Night Hours

On your computer:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Select your child's device from the list on the left side of the screen.



  3. Click texts or minutes in the Activity Summary section.



  4. A new page will appear. Locate the boxes labeled School Hours and Night Hours.



  5. Click on the times (listed in blue) that you want to make changes to.



  6. A pop-up will appear. Select the start time, end time and days of the week.



  7. Click Save.



You've successfully changed the School and Night hours.

On your Android phone:

  1. Open the FamilyBase app and sign in to your account.



  2. Tap the Navigation Menu icon.



  3. Tap Activity below the phone you want to change School and Night Hours for.



  4. Tap the Options icon in the top-right corner of the screen.



  5. Select the hours you'd like to modify.

    Note: This option will only modify the hours during which activity is recorded and doesn't relate to Time of Day restrictions.



  6. Select the start time, end time and days of the week.



  7. Tap the Back icon to return to the Activity screen. Your changes will be saved automatically.


You've successfully changed the School and Night hours.

Adding a Contact to the Watchlist

To add a contact to the Watchlist:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Select your child's device from the list on the left side of the screen.



  3. Click Contacts.



  4. You'll see a list of all the contacts in the address book for that phone. Locate the contact you'd like to add to the Watchlist.



  5. Click the Flag icon to the right of the contact's name.


Your changes will be automatically saved. Your child will receive a text message stating that the contact was added to your Watchlist.

Locking Your Child's Phone

The FamilyBase Companion app must be installed on your child's compatible Android phone to access the on-demand lock. Once the Companion app is on your child's phone, use the steps below to lock your child's phone on demand:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Click Controls.



  3. Locate the On-Demand Lock box for your child's phone.



  4. Click Lock For 30 Minutes to lock all phone use for 30 minutes, except calls to and from 911.



    Note: If the current status is Locked, it can't be locked again at that time.

  5. Click +30 Minutes to increase the duration of the lock by 30 minutes.


You've successfully locked the phone.

Unlocking Your Child's Phone

To unlock your child's phone:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Click Controls.



  3. Locate the On-Demand Lock box for your child's phone.



  4. Click Unlock.



    Note: If the current lock status is Unlocked, the phone is already unlocked.

    You've successfully unlocked the phone.

 

Allowing Lock Overrides on Your Child's Phone

The FamilyBase Companion app must be installed on your child's compatible Android device to use this function. Once the Companion app is installed, follow these steps to allow lock overrides on your child's phone:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Click Controls.



  3. Locate the On-Demand Lock box for your child's phone.



  4. Click Overrides Allowed under the Lock For 30 Minutes button. Your changes are automatically saved.


You've successfully allowed overrides.

Managing Blocks

Block Calls and Text Messages

To block calls and text messages with a contact:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.
  2. Click Controls.
  3. Click the Blocked Contacts tab.
  4. Next to the line that you want to add the block to, click Add Blocks.
  5. In the Name field, enter the contact's name.
  6. In the Contact Info field, enter the phone number that you want to block. 
  7. Select Domestic or International Number from the dropdown.
  8. Click Add.

You've successfully added the block.

Block Email Address and Screen Name

To block a contact's email address or screen name:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.
  2. Click Controls.
  3. Click the Blocked Contacts tab.
  4. Next to the line that you want to add the block to, click Add Blocks.
  5. In the Name field, enter the contact's name.
  6. In the Contact Info field, enter the email address or screen name you want to block.
  7. Select Email or Screen Name from the dropdown.
  8. Click Add.

You've successfully added the block.

Block Calls from Restricted, Unavailable and Private Numbers

To block all calls from restricted, unavailable and private numbers:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.
  2. Click Controls.
  3. Click the Blocked Contacts tab.
  4. Next to the line that you want to add the block to, click Add Blocks.
  5. Check the box next to Block Restricted, Unavailable and Private Numbers.
  6. Click Add.

You've successfully added the block.

Block Outgoing Calls to 411 Directory Assistance

This block will prevent calls to Directory Assistance (411, *411, #411 and 1411) from the phone. Because there is a fee for each call made to Directory Assistance, this is a useful way to prevent unexpected costs.

To block calls to 411 Directory Assistance:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.
  2. Click Controls.
  3. Click the Blocked Contacts tab.
  4. Next to the line that you want to add the block to, click Add Blocks.
  5. Check the box next to Block Outgoing 411 Directory Assistance Calls.
  6. Click Add.

You've successfully added the block.

Alerts

Managing Alerts and Notifications

To change how and when you're notified about alerts:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Select your child's device from the list on the left side of the screen.



  3. Click Notifications to see a list of alert types.



  4. Check the Daily Email box next to each type of alert for which you'd like to receive an email.



    Note: Uncheck the box if you don't want to receive email notifications.

  5. Check the Text box next to the alerts for which you'd like to receive text message notifications.

    Note: The FamilyBase Companion app must be installed on your child's compatible Android device to use this function.



  6. When you're done, click Save Changes in the lower-left side of the screen.


You've successfully changed your alert notifications.

Setting Override Alerts

The FamilyBase Companion app must be installed on your child's compatible Android device to use this function.

To change how you're notified about overrides:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Select your child's device from the list on the left side of the screen.



  3. Click Notifications.



  4. Check the box next to Daily Email and/or Text to receive that type of notification.



    Note: Uncheck the box If you don't want to receive an email or text message notification.

  5. Click Save Changes on the lower-left side of the screen.


You've successfully changed your override notifications.

Viewing Alerts and Alert History

To see the alerts for a phone on your account:

  1. Go to the FamilyBase page in My Verizon.



    Note: For step-by-step instructions to sign in, refer to the Signing In to Verizon FamilyBase section.

  2. Select your child's device from the list on the left side of the screen.



  3. Click All Activity to see a history of the phone's activity.



  4. Click Alerts.


The alerts for that phone will display. Use the arrows at the top or bottom of the All Activity page to view the alert history from previous days.
