Determining Signal Type/Strength - VZAccess Manager v5.x / 6.x (Windows®)

Note If the device is Mobile Broadband capable and is located outside of the Mobile Broadband Coverage Area, then the device reverts to a NationalAccess connection, if available. When connected to NationalAccess the device does not experience the same speed or throughput as when connected to Mobile Broadband.

Determining Signal Type

  1. Ensure the device is connected to the computer.
Note If using a notebook with an embedded module ensure the wireless radio is powered on.
  2. Launch VZAccess Manager.
Note From the Windows desktop navigate: Start > All Programs (Programs) > VZAccess Manager.
Note With Windows 10, click Start > Apps icon Apps Menu icon (located in the top-left corner) > All apps (located in the bottom-left corner) > VZAccess Manager.
  3. From the top menu, click Options > Test WWAN Device.
  4. Review Capabilities in the Test Results.

    No Service (or nothing displayed)
Indicates the device is outside the Verizon Wireless coverage area.

Determining Signal Strength

From the main screen of VZ Access Manager, locate the signal strength indicator located to the right of the available network(s).
Note If the device is experiencing low or no signal strength, ensure the antenna is fully extended and perpendicular to the computer. If signal strength does not improve, move the device to a location where it receives a stronger signal.

Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI)

  1. From the top menu of VZ Access Manager, click Help > WWAN Device Info.
  2. Verify the RSSI and SINR.
Note For a reliable connection, the RSSI should be greater than -95 dBm (e.g. -73 dBm). A value of -125 dBm indicates no signal. If the signal is between -95 dBm and -125 dBm, move the device to an alternate location (an outdoor location is preferable).
