Samsung Galaxy Note5 - Add a Virtual Private Network

A virtual private network (VPN) encrypts your internet traffic and protects your online identity via a secured remote server and is most commonly used when remotely accessing company systems (e.g., company email, intranet sites, etc.).

  1. From a Home screen, navigate: Apps Apps icon > Settings.
    Note These instructions apply to Standard mode only.
  2. From the 'Wireless and networks' section, tap More.
  3. Tap VPN.
  4. Tap Basic VPN.
  5. If presented with a lock screen notification, tap OK.
    Note Refer to Set Up Screen Lock (pattern, PIN or password only) for assistance.
  6. Tap the More (located in the upper-right) then tap Add VPN.
  7. From the 'Name' field, enter the appropriate name.
    Note Contact the VPN admin for assistance with server info and credentials.
  8. From the 'Type' field, tap the Dropdown menu Drop down menu icon then select the VPN type:
    • PPTP
    • L2TP/IPSec
    • PSK L2TP/IPSec RSA
    • IPSec Xauth PSK
    • IPSec Xauth RSA
    • IPSec Hybrid RSA
    • IPSec IKEv2 PSK
    • IPSec IKEv2 RSA
  9. Enter the required info into the applicable fields then tap SAVE (lower-right):
    Note If applicable, tap Show advanced options to configure the following:
    Note The available options vary depending upon the selected VPN type.
    • DNS search domains
    • DNS servers
    • Forwarding routes
    • OCSP Web address
