Format SD (Memory) Card - Moto G Play

Caution Caution:

  • When the SD (Memory) Card is formatted as portable storage, the stored data on the card can be transferred to other devices.
  • When the SD (Memory) Card is formatted as internal storage, it's encrypted to protect your stored data and cannot be transferred to other devices.
  • When formatted, all current stored data on the card is erased. It's recommended to back up your music, pictures and videos.

Format as Portable Storage

  1. From a Home screen, navigate: Apps Apps icon > Settings Settings icon > Storage Storage icon.
  2. Tap SD (Memory) Card.
    Note The name of the SD (Memory) Card varies by manufacturer.
  3. Tap the Menu icon Menu icon (located in the upper-right).
  4. Tap Format as Portable.
    Note When formatted as portable storage, data stored on the card can be transferred to other devices.
  5. Tap Format.
    Note Allow several seconds for the process to complete.
  6. Tap Done.

Format as Internal Storage

  1. From a Home screen, navigate: Apps Apps icon > Settings Settings icon > Storage Storage icon.
  2. Tap SD (Memory) Card.
    Note The name of the SD (Memory) Card varies by manufacturer.
  3. Tap the Menu icon Menu icon (located in the upper-right).
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Tap Format as Internal.
    Note When formatted as internal storage, data stored on the card cannot be transferred to other devices.
  6. Tap Erase & Format.
    Note Allow several seconds for the process to complete.
  7. From the "Move data to new storage" screen, select one of the following then tap Next:
    Note This moves media, apps, etc. from internal storage to the SD (Memory) Card.
    • Move now
      Note If selected, tap Move.
      Note Allow several seconds for the process to complete.
    • Move later
  8. Tap Done.
