Set Up Device - Hum x by Verizon

If you want to activate and set up your Hum× account, view this info.

If you are upgrading your existing Verizon device, follow these steps to activate before proceeding with the instructions below.

Note Notes:

  • You can interact with vehicle data through the online account accessible from the customer portal or mobile app.
  • You must take an initial drive in the vehicle using the Hum x device, view these install instructions for additional details.

  1. Download the Hum app.
  2. Open the app then tap Yes, Activate Hum System.

  3. Enter the System ID.
    Note The System ID can be retrieved from the box label (shown in app below).
    Note If multiple Hum systems were purchased, enter the System ID of one on the account and the others auto-provision upon installation.

  4. Tap the Create your username field then enter your email address.
  5. Create and confirm a password with the following requirements then tap the Create Account button:
    • At least eight characters in length
    • Contains at least 3 of the following:
      • Lowercase letter
      • Uppercase letter
      • Number
      • Special character (e.g., #, $, %, etc.)

  6. Choose a method to receive your 6-digit activation PIN then tap Next:
    • text
    • email (registered to account)

  7. Once received, enter the PIN into the space provided in the app.
  8. Enter a nickname for your device then tap Submit.

  9. Enter an emergency contact and his or her phone number then tap Next.

  10. On the confirmation screen, tap Next after you verify the vehicle.

  11. Plug the OBD reader into your vehicle's OBD-II port then tap Next.

  12. Review the directions given then tap Finish.

Initial Activation - Web

  1. From your web browser, go to the Hum website ( then tap Sign In.
  2. Click create account.

  3. Enter the System ID.

  4. Choose a method to receive your 6-digit activation PIN:
    • text
    • email (registered to account)
  5. Once received, enter the PIN into the space provided on the webpage.

  6. Create an 8-24 character password with at least three of the following:
    • lowercase
    • uppercase
    • numbers
    • special character
  7. Scroll down to enter an emergency contact and phone number.
  8. Click submit. if activation is successful, you receive the validation screen shown below.

  9. Proceed to the Install instructions.

  1. With the vehicle off, locate the vehicle's OBD-II port and install the reader.
    Note The Hum system consists of the following components:
    • OBD reader (below)
    • Speaker (needs to be charged for 6 hours)
    • Speaker charging cord

  2. Install the Speaker by using the clip to place it on the driver's side sun visor.
    Note Ensure the volume is turned up by using the volume controls. The switch must be turned on for Bluetooth® calling to work, but all other Hum functions work even when switched off.
    Note Follow these instructions to connect to a phone via Bluetooth.

  3. Start the vehicle and take a 10-15 minute drive to allow the OBD reader to reach out to the network and complete activation.
    Note Once you have completed the installation and after your first drive, you can see dashboard updates on your app and through the web portal.
  4. Press the Customer Service icon + Call Button on the Speaker to interact with a Hum Specialist if desired.
