Resolve Windows Device Manager Conflicts

Here's how to resolve driver conflicts if your device doesn't properly interface with your computer.
If you can't transfer pictures, music or videos between your smartphone / tablet / Basic phone / modem and Windows® computer / laptop, view this info on resolving conflicts.
  1. From the Windows desktop, Right-click
    Windows icon
    (lower-left) then click
    Device Manager
    .
  2. If applicable, click the category dropdown menu to identify conflicts.
Conflicts may exist in 'Portable Devices' and/or 'Universal Serial Bus controllers' if:
    • a red X, yellow ! or yellow ? displays to the left of a listed device (drivers must be updated or reinstalled).
    • a device entry is labeled 'Other Devices' or 'Unknown'.
  3. If a conflict is present:
    1. Right-click the device then click the
      Update Driver Software
      .
    2. Click
Browse my computer for driver software
      .
    3. Enter
      C:\Windows\System 32\Drivers
in the search field then click
      Next
      .
The driver location can be entered manually or navigated to by clicking
      Browse
      .
If the driver software isn't found, update your Windows Operating System by doing the following:
      • Windows 11: navigate
        Start
        Settings
        Windows Update
        .
      • Windows 10: navigate
        Start
        Settings
        Update & Security
        Windows Update
        .
    4. Click
      Close
      .
If a conflict still exists, contact the computer's manufacturer for additional support.
