Samsung Galaxy J7 V / J7 (2nd Gen.) - Activate / Set Up Device

If you need to transfer contacts and media from one device to another, follow these step-by-step instructions before activating the new device.

Caution To avoid potential issues, review the following:

  • Video Camera icon If you need to activate or switch devices on your account, watch this video.
  • To activate the device on prepaid service, refer to Set up Verizon Prepaid Service.
  • The Samsung Galaxy J7 (2nd Gen.) can only be activated on another network after 12 months from the date of the initial activation.


  1. If powered off, press and hold the Power button (located on the right edge of the phone) until the 'Samsung Galaxy J7 V' screen appears then release.
  2. Select the appropriate language then tap the Start icon.

  3. To continue, review the 'Terms and Conditions' screen then tap Next.

  4. If presented with the 'Phone Activation' screen, tap Next.
    Note If prompted, enter the account PIN then follow the onscreen prompts (see Account PIN FAQs for additional info).
    Note If activating a new phone, ensure the old phone is powered off.

  5. From the 'Bring your old data for quicker setup' screen, select the preferred option then tap Next.

  6. Select a network then enter the password.
    Note If you choose 'Skip', you can add a Wi-Fi network after setup is complete.

  7. Sign in to your existing Google™ account or create a new one. Signing in to Google allows you to access Gmail and your Google apps.
    Note If you choose 'Skip', you can add your Google account after setup is complete.

  8. Select a protection option.
    Note If you choose 'Not now', you can add a screen lock or set up Face Recognition after setup is complete.

  9. From the 'Google Services' screen, select any of the following to turn on On switch icon or off Off switch icon then tap Accept:
    Note Scroll to the bottom of this menu to see all options.
    • Back up to Google Drive
    • Use location
    • Allow scanning
    • Send usage and diagnostic data

  1. From the 'Verizon Cloud' screen, tap Next.
    Note If you choose 'Skip', you can set up Verizon Cloud after setup is complete.

  2. Select an email account type then enter your sign-in info.

  3. Tap the circle to allow Security & Privacy to scan your phone for harmful files. Tap Accept to proceed.

  4. From the 'Ready to go!' screen, tap Done (lower-right).
