Samsung Galaxy Note9 - Motions and Gestures

Note Notes:

  • Motion and gesture settings allow for various motion-activated services.
  • The sensor can recognize gestures from a distance of under 3 inches at normal speed.


  1. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
    Note These instructions only apply to Standard mode and the default Home screen layout.
  2. Navigate: Settings Settings icon > Advanced features.
  3. Tap Motions and gestures.
  4. Select from the following then tap the switch(es) to turn on Switch on or off Switch off:
    • Lift to wake: Turn on the screen when you pick up your phone.
    • Smart stay: Keep the screen on while you're looking at it.
    • Smart alert: Be notified of any missed calls or messages when you pick up your phone.
    • Easy mute: Place your hand on the screen or turn it over to mute notifications.
    • Direct call: Auto-dial the contact whose details are showing on the screen when you raise the phone to your ear.
    • One-handed mode: Adjust the display size and layout for easier use with one hand.
    • Finger sensor gestures: Open and close apps and features by scanning your fingerprint.
    • Palm swipe to capture: Swipe your hand horizontally across the screen to take a screenshot.
      Note Can't be used while the keyboard is shown.
    • Swipe to call or send messages: Send a message from the Phone or Contacts apps by swiping right or left.
