Samsung Galaxy Note9 - Set Up Iris™ Recognition

View this info to set up or remove Iris recognition, a device lock option that utilizes a scan of your eye.

Note Notes:

  • Iris recognition is utilized to unlock the device.
  • If synced to a corporate exchange account, the availability of this option is dependent upon the policies of your IT admin.
  • For optimal performance, ensure you are in a well lit environment and not wearing contact lenses or sunglasses.

 

Caution Caution:

  • To protect your eyes, keep the screen at least 8 inches away during iris recognition.
  • Don't attach unapproved screen protectors (privacy protection films, tempered glass protectors, etc.) to your device.
  • Don't use iris recognition with infants. Doing so may damage their eyesight.
  • Anyone with a history of symptoms linked to an epileptic condition should consult with a physician prior to using the iris scanner.

 

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
    Note These instructions only apply to Standard mode and the default Home screen layout.
  2. Navigate: Settings Settings icon > Biometrics and security.
  3. From the Biometrics section, tap Irises.
    Note If presented, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.
  4. Perform one of the following:
    • For first time setup:
      1. If presented, select a lock screen option (e.g., Pattern, PIN, Password) then follow the steps to complete the process.
        Note If necessary, refer to Set Up Screen Lock for assistance.
      2. Review the info then tap Continue.

      3. Review the info then tap Continue.
      4. While holding the phone 10-14 inches away, open your eyes wide and look at the screen.
        Note Position your eyes within the circles shown on the screen until your irises have been registered.
        Note If necessary, follow any additional instructions to complete the process.
    • To remove irises:
      1. Tap Remove iris data.
      2. To confirm, review the disclaimer then tap Remove.
