Apple® iPhone® 11 / iPhone 11 Pro / iPhone 11 Pro Max - Activate / Set Up Device

If you need to transfer contacts and media from one device to another, follow these step-by-step instructions before activating the new device.

Caution To avoid potential issues, review the following:

  • Verify that Find My iPhone is off then power off the old device prior to activating the new device.
  • If activation is performed with an incorrect Apple ID or different mobile number, erase all content and settings then sign in to iTunes with the correct Apple ID while tethered to the computer.
  • If using the Wi-Fi method and a firewall is set up on the computer / Wi-Fi network preventing access to port 443, activation fails.
  • Accounts (e.g., Gmail, email, Cloud, etc.) should be set up after activating the device (see Related Topics).


Note Notes:

  • If activating over Wi-fi, an active Wi-Fi network must be available.
  • If activate OTA, device must be in a Verizon Wireless 3G or LTE area.
  • Verify the device has a charge. If the battery is drained, use the included AC adapter to charge for approximately 15 minutes.

  1. Press the Power button (top-right edge) to power the iPhone on.
    Note If this is an upgrade or your phone was not activated when purchased, refer to the activation instructions in Power On Activation - iPhone.
  2. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to choose a language then tap the country or region.
  3. Tap Set Up Manually.
    Note If you have a previous device running  iOS 11 or later, follow the directions to use Quick Start to complete auto sign-in.
  4. Tap the Wi-Fi network, enter the Wi-Fi password then tap Join.
    Note If activating over the Verizon network, tap Use Cellular Connection.
  5. From the Data & Privacy section, tap Continue.
  6. When prompted to set up Face ID, tap 'Continue' or 'Set Up Later in Settings'.
  7. Enter a 6-digit passcode, re-enter passcode.
  8. Tap a set up option:
  9. Enter your Apple ID and password then tap Next.
    Note If you have an Apple ID already in use on another device, a verification code is sent to that device; you must enter this code to proceed with activation.
    Note If you don't have an Apple ID or have forgotten your sign-in info, refer to one of the following:
  10. Review the Terms and Conditions then tap Agree.
  11. From Express Settings, tap 'Continue' or 'Customize Settings'.
  12. From Keep Your iPhone Up to Date, tap 'Continue' or 'Install Updates Manually'.
  13. From iMessage & FaceTime screen, tap 'Continue' or 'Not Now'.
  14. From iCloud Keychain, tap 'Continue' or 'Dont' use iCloud Keychain'.
  15. From Siri screen, tap 'Continue' or 'Set up Later in Settings'.
  16. From Screen Time screen, tap 'Continue' or ' Set Up Later in Settings'.
  17. Tap whether to share analytics with app developers by tapping 'Share with App Developers' or 'Don't Share'.
  18. From the True Tone Display screen, tap Continue.
    Note True Tone adjusts your display based on the ambient light for consistency and for softer light at night.
  19. From Appearance, select 'Light' or 'Dark' then tap Continue.
  20. From Display Zoom. select 'Standard' or 'Zoomed' then tap Continue.
  21. From Go Home screen, tap Continue.
  22. From the Switch Between Recent Apps, tap Continue.
  23. From the Quickly Access Controls, tap Continue.
  24. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get started using your iPhone; confirm the status bar at the top of the screen changes from No Service to Verizon.
