Apple® iPad® - Find My iPad

Note Notes:

  • Find My iPad is an app that assists with locating a missing iOS device from another iOS device or computer.
  • Before Find My iPad can be used to locate devices, it needs to be enabled on each of the iOS devices.
  • To see all the devices when you sign in to Find My iPad, each device needs to be set up with the same iCloud account info.
  • During the initial setup and activation of an iPad, the Find My iPad/iPhone app may have been pre-installed.
  • An Apple ID must be created to use Find My iPad/iPhone. Refer to Create Apple ID for assistance.

  1. From the Home screen, tap Find iPhone.
  2. If prompted, enter the Apple ID and password then select Sign In. . . or Go.
  3. The Find My iPad / iPhone app locates the device.
    Note Tap Allow if asked if location can be used to track your device.

Locate Device

Note See the locations of online iOS devices on a map.

  1. Tap the Back arrow Back icon (upper-left).
  2. In the My Devices list, the dot to the left of the device's name indicates it's status.
    • A green dot indicates it's online
    • A gray dot indicates it's offline
    • A blue dot indicates the device you are currently on
  3. Select a device with an online status (green dot indicator).
    Note The location of the device shows on the map.

Play Sound

Note If a missing online iOS device is nearby, play a sound on it to assist with finding it.

  1. Tap the Back arrow Back icon (upper-left).
  2. Select one of the devices.
  3. Tap Actions at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Tap Play Sound.
    Note A sound plays on the missing iOS device.

Lost Mode

Note Securely lock an online iOS device and display a custom message along with a contact number. The finder of the device is able to call the contact number from the device itself.

  1. Tap the Back arrow Back icon (upper-left).
  2. Select one of the devices.
  3. Tap Actions at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Tap Lost Mode.
  5. If prompted, select Turn on Lost Mode.
  6. Enter a 10-digit phone number to be shown on the lost device's screen then select Next.
  7. Enter a message to be shown on the lost device's screen then select Done.
    Note The custom message and contact number display on the missing iOS device.

Erase iPad

Note If the online iOS device is lost or stolen it can be remotely erased, removing the personal info (e.g. contacts, email, music, etc.) and settings to prevent anyone from seeing or using the info.

  1. Tap the Back arrow Back icon (upper-left).
  2. Select one of the devices.
  3. Tap Actions at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Tap Erase iPad or Erase iPhone.
  5. Review the warning then tap Erase iPhone or Erase iPad.
  6. Enter the Apple ID password then tap Done.
    Note All personal info and settings are erased from the missing iOS device.

Remove iPad

Note If an iOS device is no longer being used, it can be removed from the Find My iPad devices list.

  1. Tap the Back arrow Back icon (upper-left).
  2. Select one of the offline (gray dot) devices.
  3. Tap Remove in the upper-right.
  4. Tag Remove to confirm.
    Note The iOS device is removed from the Find My iPad device list.

Sign Out

  1. Tap the Back arrow Back icon (upper-left).
  2. Tap Sign Out (at the top).
  3. Tap Sign Out to confirm.
