Set Up Device - Nokia Lumia 928

If you need to transfer contacts and media from one device to another, follow these step-by-step instructions before activating the new device.

Note If performing first time (out-of-the-box) setup, ensure the SIM card is inserted.

  1. From the 'Welcome' screen, select the appropriate language then tap next (located at the bottom).
    Note Selected when the text appears in red.
  2. On the Let's start screen, tap next.
  3. Review the Windows Phone Terms of Use then tap accept to continue with setup.
  4. Connect to Wi-Fi or tap skip.
  5. On the Wi-Fi Sense screen select desired Wi-Fi settings then tap next.
  6. Select an option to choose phone settings:
    • recommended
      Note If selected, skip to step 8.
    • custom
  7. Tap any of the following settings then tap next (located in the lower-right).
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present
    • Allow cellular data usage on your phone
    • Send Wi-Fi connection information to help discover nearby Wi-Fi
    • Send keyboard usage information to improve text suggestions and more
    • Send phone usage feedback to help improve Microsoft and partner products and services
    • Automatically download and install Windows Phone updates
    • Automatically update Store apps
  8. From the 'Time and region' screen, configure the country/region and time zone settings as appropriate then select next (located in the lower-right).
  9. From the 'Keep your life in sync' screen, tap Sign in or create one, starting at step 7.
    Note If Sign in later is selected, skip to step 14.
    Note To set up a Microsoft Account at a later date, refer to Add a Microsoft Account.
  10. Enter the Microsoft Account Email address and Password then tap next.
  11. If presented with the 'Restore phone' screen, tap the device to restore your data from or tap 'don't restore', then tap next.
  12. If presented with the 'Back up?' screen, tap yes.
  13. If presented with the 'Cortana ' set up screen, tap not now, thanks.
    Note Refer to Set Up Cortana to set up at a later date.
  14. If presented, 'All the apps have finished installing', tap next.
  15. On the 'Almost done' screen, tap next.
  16. From the 'Verizon Setup Wizard' screen (Backup Assistant Plus setup), tap not now (located in the lower-left).
    Note Backup Assistant Plus setup can be resumed after completing initial setup by navigating Start screen > Settings > Backup Assistant Plus
  17. Review the Privacy Caution and Data Use screen, then tap accept (located in the lower-right) to continue with setup.
  18. Tap next on Automatic Phone Updates screen.
  19. Tap done (located in the lower-left).
