Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update for your device. This software update has been tested to help optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches.
Before you download:
The LG K8 V Software Update 4 (SU4) includes an Android® Operating System upgrade to Nougat (N OS).
Here's some of the key changes which will be available after your device has completed the software update.
Delete a picture by mistake? Deleted images are stored in the Trash folder for 7 days after deletion.
Google's Downloads app replaces LG's Downloads app, providing more options to filter by name, type, file size and more.
Multi-Window (Split View) is now supported.
You can have 2 apps open at the same time and change the window size for each. For example, you can open the Gallery app in the top window and the Chrome browser in the bottom window without having to switch between apps.
To use Multi-Window, tap and hold the Recent Apps icon (square icon on the Home screen) and select an app for each window. To revert back to a single window view, tap and hold the Multi-Window icon on the Home screens buttons (shown as 2 rectangles, one above the other) or by sliding the windows separating line all the way to the top or bottom of the screen.
Change your device settings with Condition cards.
You can now change the Settings by selecting a Condition card (e.g., Airplane mode is on) notification.
Tap the bell icon in the top navigation bar and the following screen will be presented:
Tap the Do not disturb is on Condition card and the option to turn it off will be presented:
An example of the Suggestion card is also ("On-body detection").
Faster navigation between Settings screens:
By swiping left at the top left corner (e.g., "Settings") you can view and use the parent level settings screen. To quickly revert back to the "Settings" screen, select the grey column on the right.
Swipe left at the top left corner ("Settings") and the following screen will be displayed:
For example, if you select the "Sound" Settings option, the following Settings screen will be displayed:
You can now change fonts and icon sizes with a slider control:
Default Display Size setting:
Default Display size setting
Settings display with the default font size:
Modifying the default Display size setting when the slider is set to maximum:
Modified Display size setting
Example of the Settings menu after the Display size is modified to maximum:
Control your notification settings directly from the Notification Panel by pressing and holding an app notification (e.g., below is for the Email's notification settings):
Tap the Email notification and the following notification option will be displayed right on the notification panel:
The Settings for Sound & notification has been modified to separate out Sound & Notifications settings. Also, the Storage and USB setting has been modified to simply Storage as follows:
The notification card on the lock screen is being modified from displaying 2 lines of text to 3 lines of text. As a result, the screen to unlock the device is now separated from the screen which includes the notification cards on the lock screen. You can still add application shortcuts on the lock screen (e.g., Call, Message+, QuickMemo+, Camera, Chrome).
Upon swiping the above screen, the following unlock screen will be presented. The Pattern unlock is only shown as an example. The other unlock screen types permitted in this scenario include using a PIN, Password or Knock Code.
To help you with the mandatory software update for your device, this page contains the following information:
User initiated OTA
To start the download:
When download is complete, a screen will appear advising you that the new version of software is ready to be installed.
Tap Install Now.
The device will power down and restart. A screen will appear stating that the installation has been completed. Tap OK.
Server initiated OTA
Once a new software version is available for your device, it'll begin downloading in the background.
When the download is complete, you'll be notified that it is ready to be installed.
Tap Install Now and the device will power down and restart. A screen will appear stating that the installation has been completed. Tap OK.
To check your software version from the home screen:
Updating while roaming
You won't receive a software update notice if you're roaming. You'll need to be connected to Wi-Fi to update your device while roaming.
To enable Wi-Fi on your device, go to Settings under Wireless & Networks and tap Wi-Fi ON to enable (if not already enabled).
Tap Wi-Fi to view and select a Wi-Fi network.
Once you're connected, an update notification will appear on your device. If the software update fails to install, you'll get an error screen, though this only means the software didn't install properly. Remove and re-insert the battery, and power your device back on. The device will restart with the original software and will prompt you once again to install the software update.
Insufficient Device Memory
Due to changes in the Lollipop OS, you'll need sufficient reserved memory for a software upgrade. If you don't have enough user memory, a Low Memory pop-up screen will be shown until you free up enough memory. Eliminating unused apps, and clearing videos or photos can help free up device memory. If you dismiss the notification and have not cleared space after 24 hours, a pre-update message will pop up again until you free up the memory necessary to perform the software update.
Battery life expectations after a major software update:
Software Upgrade Assistant Tool
If you don't have a strong connection to Wi-Fi or the Verizon Wireless network, you may not be able to perform a software update over the air. Instead, you can connect your device to a computer with Internet access. Connect your device to your computer using your USB cable, then download the Software Upgrade Assistant (PDF*) tool to your computer, which will check for software updates and initiate the software update process.
The current software update gives you the most up to date Android security patch on your device.

Please allow additional time for the apps on your device to continue to download after the software update.
