Gingerbread (Android 2.3 release) introduces new features that make it faster to use, increase battery life and simplify the user interface. It includes an improved, easy-to-use keyboard with smarter copy/paste functions, so you can type and send more efficiently. Plus, Gingerbread supports multiple cameras for your front- and back-lensed device.
The steps to find the current OS version varies by device. Below are general instructions that work for most Android devices. For detailed instructions about a specific device, please check the user guide.
To check your current Android OS version:
- Open your device's Settings
- Tap the About Phone or About Device option.
- Tap Android Version to display your version information.
Gingerbread is more power-efficient overall than previous OS versions. It automatically detects and closes battery-draining apps running in the background. New expanded app settings make it easier to check app storage, memory and power use, and manually shut down app activity.
Gingerbread’s intuitive onscreen keyboard has reshaped and repositioned keys for faster, more accurate text input. The new keyboard supports multi-touch input and provides smart autocorrect suggestions.
With Gingerbread, you can quickly touch and hold a word to select it, copy it to the system clipboard and then paste it elsewhere.
The Gingerbread camera app supports multiple cameras for devices with lenses on the front and back. Whether you’re taking a picture or viewing face-to-face, it’s got you covered.
